Has anyone here put on or seen an AK style scope rail mounted on an 870? The guns both have 1 5/16" thick reciever, and the big flat sides of the 870 would seem to give a lot of room to rivet or screw the rail. This would allow one to use a quick detach russian optical sight.

Sounds kind of interesting. If i hunted deer with a 870, I think I would consider it. You could probably drill and tap the holes, so you wouldn't have to use rivets. (I don't know if the rivets would obstruct anything inside the action or not.) You could probably even silver solder the piece after drilling and tapping, and installing screws. I don't know how accurate optics mounted on 870 receivers would be, as opposed to barrel-mounted optics.

You mean saddle style? AIMTech makes one that mounts to the pins used to hold the trigger assembly in place.
