Solidarity

Solidarity. A powerful word. For those of you old enough to remember, Solidarity was the word that united the Poles and helped put a major crack in the wall of the Russian Empire!
Solidarity is also what inspires those of us who frequent this site because we are united in the rkba.
Solidarity is what our Constitution and BoR is all about; those timeless document unify us. Our national slogan is E Pluribus Unum......Out of the Many, One.
Ben Franklin said "Democracy is two wolves and lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." "Where Liberty dwells, there is my country." "Gentlemen, we must now hang together, or we shall most assuredly hand separately."
Ladies and gentlemen of this forum, here is my point. What can we do as Americans to show our solidarity with our brave young (and not so young) Americans who are at this moment risking and giving their lives to reaffirm the principles of our founders not only for ourselves but for strangers in a strange land.
Here is what I propose. It is not much of thing and some might say it is silly or even foolish. But this thing is a visible example that we are all in this together with our brave military on our behalf.
I hope to see all men who have hair, get yourself a military haircut. Yep! Skin it down! First stand in front of the mirror and look at yourself. Admire your curly locks or the remnants of them if you you are follicle challenged. Think to yourself about the small thing you are going to do in comparison to what is being asked of our military. Then go and do it. I am going to the barber monday.
I am going on every web site I inhabit. E mail everybody I know and suggest that we do this. If all us did it by this time next week I think every newspaper and TV network in the nation would be showing groups of men with their heads shaved to military length in SOLIDARITY with our troops. So do it yourself and tell everyone to unite in solidarity with our troops and with each other.
Whether you agree with the mission, you must support the men and the women and this is the most visible way of doing it.
What do you think?

I agree with you.
Unfortunately, I think many of us have been fed diversity to the point that we're incapable of solidarity.
Diversity-Devisive-Devide...all from the latin verto-to turn (against, in this instance).
I notice the idea that "different is special" is well reflected in some of our younger members. I really believe that that idea is the root of a lot of the "protests" we've seen.
"You're special by virtue of being different." :barf:

Similarly, I have a theory that college age kids protest against the "evil USA" to prove (to themselves as much as anyone else) that they've scrutinized the belief system they were raised in.
They confuse scrutiny with rejection -- or at least they fear that if they don't reject it, loudly, someone might, gasp, think they haven't scrutinized.
Others were just raised in Soho or Berkely.
...but I'm just an armchair psychologist.
That reminds me, I need a hair cut.

That's a great idea, grampster. I already have my hair buzzed. Should I keep it that way or go with the high 'n tight?:D

Mitchschaft,
I was thinking shortest buzz inna book. High and tight would look strack on a young guy, though. Whichever way, our troops will get the point. I hope this catches on.

PS Thumper,
I'm with you on the diversity bit. Have engaged in many heated conversations with many folks about the true meaning of diversity, which is as you describe. It does not unify, it divides us.
I repeat: E Pluribus Unum....Out of the Many, One. That is really what America is all about.
Is the that a massive, shock and awe buzzing sound I am hearing from the myriad barber shops around America??

Well, yours is considered a medium grade high 'n tight.
We talkin about just buzzed hair then?

I have had either the High and Tight or the simple take it all off with the clipers most of my life. The style depends on weather I do it my self or pay the barber to cut my hair. I can't do the High and Tight myself so I usually settle for the recruit haircut:D

Thumper,
With all due respect. That hair is twice as long as I'm proposing. My ole Gunny friend Sarn't Marion would say, get that hair down to where I can't see it, marine!!!
Thumper, looking at your pic, you can have my 6 all day every day, I'm good to go.
grampster:D
Mitch, just got back from the restrawnt, talked my idea around, and got 15 recruits including 3 women. High and tight if your under 40, buzz cut for over 40.

what about those of us who don't have that much left to buzz? I mean one of the running jokes here in town (we have one lady who does both men's and women's hair - she schedules men for 15 minutes and women for a hour...I'm not kidding here) is when I tell them to "take some off the sides and back" it's because those are the only places left to take anything off of!

Well, I now have a boot camp haircut and have emailed my request to have other men do the same to several news outlets.
I would ask all of you who read this thread to spread it around and see if it catches on.

Fun thread & hate to be the one to burst the bubble, but I'll stick with my full beard & 2' ponytail.
My fave way of supporting the USofA is to "tag 'em" once in a while that we do have a constitutional republic, founded on specific ideals that made this country what it is (was).
I salute the idea behing it all, grampster. No question.
But, if we're gonna fight for it, shouldn't it be what we were always fighting for?

By the time my hair grows back, Labgrade, the war will be over.
Then I go to work on the ponytail.
Seems to be some positive fallout, though. Wife says I look like a pinhead but sorta hot. (In response head snaps around dislodging some Arthur Itis, now I gotta take a Tylenol.)
2 young things at the office came bumpin up and purrin as well.
Sigh......nother good idear not goin too fur.
:D

Havbe a good time with it, grampster, & hope you get a whole movement going - it's just not for me.
I'll still buy a beer, step aside, or anyotherwise show my due respect for our folks in uniform.
Got the T-shirt & since I don't wear it anymore, those that do sure deserve what I can do for 'em now.
Hope you thought me not respectful.

I think its a cool idea.
I already keep my hair short though, so most people I know or see often don't think much of it.
However, I did see a clip on my local news the other day about some company that is producing aluminum bracelets that say "Operation Iraqi Freedom. Until they come home" on them.
They are similar to the POW/MIA bracelets.
Has anyone else heard of them?
I tried to find them on the web, and on the site of the news station that ran the segment, but no luck....
I really want a couple too...:(

Not sure if its the same company that was featured on the news, but just as good....
