This kind of knee jerk liberal stuff just makes me boil. They would prefer kids to suffer rather than take advantage of a good program.

“Rather than try over and over again to gun-proof our kids, I think we ought to child-proof our guns."

:banghead:

Now when was the last time you saw something that was completely "child-proof"?

“Rather than try over and over again to gun-proof our kids, I think we ought to child-proof our guns."
I'm for the suspenders-and-a-belt theory, myself.

As well as gun-proofing our kids, we ought to child-proof the guns.

As well as child-proofing our guns, we ought to gun-proof our children.

That's why I wear my gun on my hip at home, instead of stashing a loaded weapon somewhere in the house. If it were accessible enough for me to use in an emergency, it would be too accessible to the little darlings. If it weren't accessible to them, it wouldn't be much use to me. If it ain't under my conscious control, it is locked up.

But the kids all know that if I goof and leave a gun lying around, they don't touch it and they do come tell me about it, soonest.

Seems to me that only a damfool would completely and solely trust either a small child's obedience and maturity, or any child-proofing scheme which relies on imperfect humans and breakable mechanisms.

As is said I think both need to be done, but children will always find a way around child proofing. In the same note taught no matter how much small children will often not have the maturity yet to fully understand the danger's of something like a gun, just like they can't understand the danger of munching on a bunch of brightly colored pills that look like candy.

To pretend something doesn't exist and compltly hide it away from children has never helped anything. If you want kid's to be safe around something proper education is the only surefire (pardon the pun) way of making sure they properly handle or leave something alone by understanding the dangers and proper action to take.

I meant to ask here--is that "Art Kellerman" the same "Arthur Kellerman" of the "43 times more likely to kill you" fame?

You gotta wonder, don't you, pax?

But I would imagine that even THAT Arthur Kellerman didn't have to fall all the way down the liberal-status tube to become a local ER physician.

Did he ever buy his wife that .38, BTW?

I was opening pill bottles when I was 3 years old. How are they going to make a gun "child proof".

by banning them of course.

Don't you know that banning cure's any problem? :neener: :banghead:

Was a time when young children were taught to respect and handle firearms. A time before the welfare state, psychologism, and children as God surrogates in a God-deprived world. Who knows if that time will come again?

Sacrificing children is not the exclusive domain of the modern "liberal". However...I agree with your sentiment.

The fact is that "political agendas" get in the way of logic and reason all the time.

For example:
The "left" says no to guns (cause exposing kids to guns is bad ju-ju) but "yes" to sex ed. (cause exposing kids to mutual masturbation and dental dams is "education")
