I have searched high and low for a consistant self defence trainig with a gun
in my area and cant seem to find anything. I have found a weekend course
in lower Michigan but I would still want something relatively close to keep
myself sharp and up to date till Im sure I have it down pat.
I am not far from Michigan in north central Indiana. Anything
in St. Joseph, Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall, or surrounding area would be great. Thanks for any help.

I commend you for seeking training. The more training you can get the better. Check with local ranges for available instructors. Also call your shooting organization reps like the NRA. They list instructors, many of which will be able to offer or at least refer you to the types of training you seek.

Thank you,
There is one range I can find in the phone book. I hope they have
instructors.
The NRA web site had instructors in Inianapolis....at little far for me
if I can avoid it.

There's a Sheriff's department in Indiana that offers courses.
Of course, I can't remember which one it is now.

We've got a couple of Indiana members here on the board who attend training courses pretty regularly. At least as of a couple years ago, Louis Awerbuck and a couple other guys were going through and teaching classes in Indiana.

Contact Captain Ken Campbell of the Boone County Sheriffs Dept in Lebanon IN. CPT Ken hosts Pat Rogers, Louis Awerbuck, Steve Tarani and others. The classes are open enrollment.

CPT Ken is a great host and works his tail off to make sure all the admin needs of a class are taken care of and the students can concentrate on learning and he's a fine instructor in his own right.

Ditto what Jeff said. As a resident of Boone Co., I've had the good fortune of being able to avail myself of training opportunities that would've otherwise been financially out of my reach due to the added expenses of travel, lodging, and ancillary crud like car rentals and ammo shipping.

Another option that you might look into is to check the websites of outfits like Yavapai, LFI, etc. who have extensive off-site programs for scheduled classes within your prefered travel area. Contact and registration information for those should be available there, too.

If you have enough like-minded friends and acquaintances, and access to suitable facilities, you can also set up a contract for a class with many trainers on your club premises. Not cheap, but doable if you're serious enough. Contract particulars will vary, of course, but if you're willing to expend the time and effort to make sure that you can guarantee delivering on your end, it's a very viable alternative.
