A buddy of mine and I are semi skilled metal workers and we are interested in building falling plate racks and poppers and the like, hopefully that can be reset with the tug of a rope or similar. Can any point me toward where I can find plans? We can cut, weld and do rudimentary heat treatment. Hope ya'' can help

You may find some good ideas by visiting a local range that holds IPSC/USPSA matches as well.

Ive seen them that just spin when shot....like a lower/upper plate assembly with a pivot inbetween them....
Also spring loaded plates.....just pop back up...but give you plenty of time to see that you got it....
An old favorite is a cast frying pan.....it isnt reactive unless you shoot it with a 458 Weatherby Mag...

We tried a cast iron pan at our camp and it shattered right away from a .45 ACP round. I've got an old 10" diameter saw blade that I'm gonna hang as a dinger on our 100 yard range for .22's.

But what about the hole in the middle? It'd never ring when I was shootin' it. :p

HRT. Go shoot a match at Blackwater, it's the local IPSC for you. They also make steel targets there, study while you're there.

Here is a site that lists a bunch of target makers. You should be able to get ideas from these.

If you have a contact at an Oxygen supply you might pick up an unuseable cylinder. You can cut the cylinder to make two gongs.
They make a pretty good ring when hit and are heavy enough to outlast your ammo supply...maybe.

I saved a couple of broken garage door springs with the intention of mounting steel plates on the top and a base plate or some fashon of anchor at the bottom. Haven't gotten around to actually building them yet though.
If it works right they should 'twitch' some when hit.
