What is taught at police academies?
Besides marksmanship, hand to hand self defense, driving, and so on.
What is taught about Constitution and the Bill of Rights?
What is taught about Law and statutes?
And anything else you can comment on.
thanks,
Harve Curry

[Anything they can get away with] without being prosecuted too frequently.

Not even close. :barf:

When I went through, there were sixteen 'Knowledge Domains'. We were taught the California Penal Code, Vehicle Code, and specific sections of other state codes; Criminal Law; Defensive Tactics; ABC law; Constitutional Law; Drug Law; Juvenile Law; EVOC; Firearms; Baton; Chemical Agents; Police Community Relations; Cultural Awareness; the Court System; History of American Policing; Ethics; Physical Fitness; etc.

I think that was all of them. There may have been some other sub-catagories, but that was about it.

Some of it was fun. Some of it was dry as a bone.

+1 M-Rex. State Revised Code, Constitution, first responder first aid, cultural diversity, investigation, crime scene security, photography, ethics, court systen, self defense, firearms, defensive driving, accident reconstruction, building searches, a LOT of roleplaying scenarios, where to find the best coffee in town- (sorry, that was the responsibility of your first field training officer). I know we get flamed a lot, but the training is really very good. The instructors were top notch and cared about what they are doing. All of that and constant in house training at your departments and extra training whenever the department can find it in the budget. Thinking of enrolling Harve?

Well let's see.....

There's Oppression of the Masses 101.

Jackbooted Thugery 201.

My personal favorite was Confrontation, Intimidation and You.

Then there was the Why Racial Profiling Always Works class, which was a little dry, but with colorful language.

Ethics, Procedure and Other Suggestions.

Tomfoolery 301.

Smartassedanswers and the Driver.

Use of Force and the Fun of Tasers.

Constitutional Law and Lack of Applicability to Stupid People.

Narcotics, Money Laundering and the Joy of Probable Cause.

Now that I've got that out of the way...I am curious as to why you are curious as to what is taught in academy....especially on this forum.
