I think that if I were interested in that sector of the market, I would go for something a little more refined, like a Thompson Contender, S&W X-Frame, BFR, or even a bolt action pistol.
But that's the cool thing about guns, the diversity, and all the different solutions to the same problem.
Oh, and your right, it's bloody ugly.

I made a muzzle-loading black powder conversion on a 1911 frame once that looked much the same. Shot O.K. though, and that's what mattered ...

I actually think it looks kind of cool in a sci-fi-esque sort of way. The more important questions are, how does it shoot and where can I get it. :D
Now for ugly, I second the Nambu...

I think these two guns are running for the competition of ugly wanna be 1911. This is gov model what was chopped at both ends. Its a face only a mother could love. Owned and operated by THR's very Tactical Andrew Wyatt.

You know that DOES look like a Paintball gun.
It looks like one of those "EDGE" paintball guns. (This was a HEAVY crap, Paintball gun that wasnt produced that long)

Well, as a 'pistol' it is most ungainly. However, if one expands the category to 'hand cannon, the Thor is sort of quintessentional, eh
It has its place, but not at my house.

If memory serves, Springfield Armory sold that unit as a conversion kit called the "SASS" (Springfield Armory Single-Shot) before EAA bought the design; compared to a Type 94, though, it's positively BEAUTIFUL.

Glock and Hi-Point still rule the ugly gun scene.
The beauty (no pun intended) of rifle caliber single shot handguns is that they need only be functional, because there is no way to make them pretty.

Dardick revolver.
The rounds fed from the grip into the cylinder.

The Dardick 1100 wins, but here's a couple more atrocities just in case anyone's eyes haven't burnt out yet:

Having wanted a Springfield SASS or Clerke Xtender in the past (but too late to buy them), I think I'll give the EAA Thor a try (.308) if it comes with a bull barrel. Got a couple 1911 frames not doing much (one will get a Marvel).

Dardick revolver.
The rounds fed from the grip into the cylinder.
The Dardick didn't fire rounds, it fired "trounds".... the cartridges were triangular. They were fed up from the magazine/grip area into what amounted to an "open" cylinder... ( Imagine taking an ordinary revolver cylinder and cutting the center out of it at the chamber webs, then sticking that into a round housing.... it's pretty much the same operating principle )
Anyway, yes, the Dardick is/was quite real, and certainly more than a little ugly.

Wow, website says MSRP is just short of $1100! You can get a new contender and a few barrels, a scope, plus ammo for that kind of price! How on earth could a single shot cost $1100?!?
