It would sure seem easier to do a thourough cleaning job with the whole barrel exposed on our t/c hawken.Even if only pulling it occasionaly.
Does it take Hercules to loosen 'em,and how 'tight' is 'tight' when re-assembleing?
And facing the muzzel from the breech, are they rh or lh threads?
Thanks!

Most makers discourage the removal of the breechplug in a traditional styled ML. Plus it is a malor PITA to do it!!.

And once you do get it out, good luck on lining the flats up again.

A mark is made on the barrel and breechplug and this allows for realignment after the plug is removed. To remover it, the barrel should be secured in a vise (without crushing the barrel) and breechplug wrench is placed on the plug. It's not that hard to remove or reinstall a breechplug but I wouldn't do it for regular cleaning after each range session.
