I just bought one too. Very little wear, even on the varnish on the grips. I can pick it up next Wed.

Mouthwatering. Good find. Great revolver.

Hope it's as tight and true-shooting as the finish is pristine.

That is a nice one. I have one just like but I had to buy mine without the grips because the guy wanted an extra $50 for some white fake ivory Ajax grips that I didn't want any way. I put a nice set of wood Hogues on mine and it is great. I also have a 6" 19-5 that is pretty nice but the older 19-3 has a much better finish. Got to love the old P&R S&Ws!

If you don't mind, how much did you pay for that 19-3? I have bought both of mine for under $300 but it took a lot of looking and passing on higher priced guns.

Well, I was amazed at how good the factory bluing happened to be on this particular 19-3! It is a "Beauty" for sure!:D

albanian:

Since I live in the Peoples Republic of California, although I hate to admit it, I had to pay $450 for this 19-3! But, since the gun is so nice, I don't regret having to spend this much! We don't have any choice here in the "PRK" as there is too much competition for guns like this one-and, you gotta be the first person to find such mint guns(Or, you snooze, you lose!)and you have to pay the going rate(Or, the next guy behind you will snatch the gun right out from under you!)!:cuss: :banghead:

OK, so It was $450. I paid $228 in 1980 for a new Security Six. Think what that gun cost adjusted for inflation. I know clean K-frames used to be everywhere, and cheap too. I passed on so many chances to pick up one...
Shoot it and dont look back.

Pitch the grips unless they fit your hand, but a trigger job is required. No big deal. Polish all mating surfaces and change the springs. Just changing the springs will do, but you can get a truly incredible trigger on a 19.

I rate 19's very highly, and never shoot the good one. It was only recently I picked up a Sig 220 (having been a devote wheel gunner). For the $50.00 more that I paid for the Sig, if you laid them side by side for me to choose, it would be the most difficult choice. Put the VERP K in the lot for similar $, the difficult choice becomes almost impossibe.
So many guns...., so little time.:uhoh:

I would not have hesitated to pay $450 for the one pictured.

Then if the 629 was added to the choice......:banghead: :p

I know what your feeling. I stopped into the local gunshop to correct the wrong spring they placed in my Sig p229 when I spotted a used S&W 19 in the showcase. It's a 2 inch barrel with a factory hard chrome finish in excellent shape. It also came with the Tyler grip extension. It cost me $325.
and Im very pleased with it as I could spend a lot of time looking for another in such good condition and I really wanted one in chrome.

I found one Friday at a local gun shop. It's a 4" blue with factory grips. The finish appears to be almost perfect and lockup and timing are like new. I'm going to get it tommorow after work.:D

Much better shape than my model 19-5.

Of course, I still love this revolver.

Whoa! I agree pitch the grips I hate the target stocks, BUT Why do an "Action" job on a perfectly great S&W. Just dry fire the snot out of it and shoot the thing and let it wear, A good action job just takes it to where it would be after a few thousand rounds. If after you shoot 1000 rounds thru it it needs help then have an action job done.
OBTW beautiful gun.

Jiml3, are you sure that your 19 is factory hard chrome? Unless something like a performance center job, I think all 19's were blue or nickel.

Moonclip;

You are right, it is nickle, not hard chrome. Thanks for correcting my mistake.

Sure change the target grips if you want. But don't throw them away. Those S&W grips are starting to go up in price. Smith stopped making them years ago. Hold on to everything when it comes to Smiths.

It's a beaut!

You passed on some nice ones, I'm sure, but your patience was rewarded.

Congratulations!
