What handgun would you like to see?
Nightcrawler

What handguns do you wish they'd make? I have a few.
-Springfield XD in 10mm and .45. Both use narrow, but still double column magazines, so that the .45 holds a full ten rounds without having an excessively fat grip. 4" and 5" models. A 5" XD in 10mm would be SWEET.
-CZ-97 pistol or conversion to 10mm.
-A new CZ pistol, using their modern designs, and very strong, with a 10 round double column magazines, chambered for 7.62x25mm. Or heck, bring back a new, improved CZ52, with an improved grip angle, push-button mag release, better sights, and a less brittle firing pin.
-A 4.5" Ruger "mountain gun" Redhawk revolver, in .44 Mag and .45 Colt. Bring back .41 Mag, too.
-Smith should bring back the 4" .41 Magnums. Seriously.
-Single Column full sized Glocks in all calibers. I don't want one but almost everybody who likes Glocks does.
-Somebody should make a new, full sized, modern pistol in .45 Win Mag. A good hunting semiauto with less weight and bulk than the Desert Eagle.

A HiPower-1911 fusion.
The trigger of a 1911 on a HiPower body. The low profile safety paddles from a carry 1911, with the positive click on, click off. Good bar-dot or 3-dot Novak-style sights.
I do like the 1911, but dislike the grip safety, and I find the HiPower has a better shaped grip.
I would also like more 10 mm handguns. Most of what is available is a 1911. Only the Glock and Witness, among current production models, are not in the 1911 body. How about a USP, SIG, or Beretta (or CZ-97)? THey would need to handle hot loads.
More .44 Special snubbies that can handle hot loads. More hot loadings would be nice too.
A mass marketed .45 necked down to 9mm. Why? Just because. I do know about the .38 Cassull, but it doesn't seem to have caught on.

What I'd like to see = A pistol with:
- An absolute maximum unloaded weight of 25 ounces.
- Overall length of no more than 7.5" and no less than 6.0", with a barrel at least 3.5" in length.
- A full-length grip.
- At least ten-round capacity, assuming chambering in 9mm or .40.
- A grip no more than 1.1" across at the widest point. No finger groves, palm swells, or thumb shelves.
- A fixed barrel.
- A system of operation that is clean, self-regulating, and highly reliable, that allows for the above-mentioned fixed barrel.
- A single-weight trigger with a crisp, soft break and a very short reset length. Overall trigger travel from rest to firing should not exceed 0.25".
- An ambidextrous manual safety. I've grown used to such things. Make that ambi controls all around.
- No porting. No equipment rails. No grip safties.
- Very strong, all-steel magazines with a friction-reducing coating inside and out.
- As few nooks and crannies as possible on the inside of the gun.
- Full-length slide rails would be nice.
- A small thing - use industry-standard sight cuts. No one will ever agree on The One True Sight, so making it easy to change is a good thing.
- A street price under $700.
- Chris

First wish is easy: Full size CZ-75/85 with rails for attaching a light. This would make for a good home-defense pistol. Graft a 1911-style trigger onto it, and I think I'd be happy as a clam.
Second wish will never happen but I still want it bad:
A modern fixed-barrel pistol chambered in 7.62x25mm Tokarev. Single or double stack, doesn't matter, though I think a double-stack magazine for 7.62x25 would make for an excessively large grip.
Make a matching carbine with a 16-inch barrel and the ability to accept some sort of red-dot scope that uses the same magazines as my imaginary wonderpistol, and I'd buy one of those, too.

1. Colt produce a 5" Series 70 stainless GM in 10mm in the style of the XS Series sans the front cocking serrations.
2. CZ to produce a Bren Ten copy in 10mm.
3. Springfield Armory to offer their entire TRP line in 10mm.
4. Smith & Wesson bring back the 3" barrel 610.
5. Colt bring back the entire XS line (GM, Combat Commander, CCO, Officers Model) all with stainless frames and slides, all Series 70.
6. Colt offer their Defender with a stainless steel frame.

When Smith & Wesson, a company located in Springfield Mass., cannot automatically get its new products (i.e., SW 1911) approved for sale in the state where it employs people, and pays taxes, then there is something WRONG!
I live in PA, and this situation in Massachusetts still rankles me!

I'm easy to please--all I want is a Lightweight Commander version of the new roll mark Colt M-1991A1. Maybe a version in 9x19mm too. Reintroduction of the Service Model Ace would be great also.
I might be able to come up with some ideas for S&W revolvers if they get rid of that stupid key lock and return to hammer-mounted firing pins, quality tool steel internal parts, blued finishes, and square butt frames on 4" and longer barrel guns. Then again, there are so many used S&Ws on the market, why worry about what they are making now?
