CONCEALED CARRY
More guns on streets will mean more violence
With the number of murders this year in Milwaukee now at 100, the idea of a concealed-carry proposal by Sen. Dave Zien (R-Eau Claire) and Rep. Scott Gunderson (R-Waterford) to put 100,000 more handguns on the streets of Wisconsin sickens me. These two legislators cannot possibly know what it is like to live in a city where the violent crime they so passionately speak of is a reality.

More handguns on the streets of Milwaukee will mean more violence. The police, sometimes justifiably, can have enough trouble determining when a situation warrants use of lethal force. Just imagine thousands of vigilantes with a fraction of the training and experience trying to do the same thing.

It seems to me that the real protection being offered by this legislation is to the gun lobby, which has been pushing states to adopt concealed-carry bills since the signing of the assault weapons ban.

Perhaps if Zien and Gunderson lived in my neighborhood, they would think people need to be allowed to carry those around, too.

1. Civil rights are not about your feelings.

2. CCWers are no threat to the police just as law-abiding drivers are no threat to the police.

3. Exercising a civil right, such as carrying a pistol, does not make you Batman. If you want to know what a vigilante is please put down your bong and find your campus library (it's that place with all the books).

4. CCWers have many times the training hours that police have. For myself, it is a factor of over twenty (20) times the training hours that Officer Friendly has, although he does have a blue polyester shirt and and shiny badge (oddly, we both have handcuffs:D) but his gun belongs to the government, a government that you desire to control.

5. What "assault weapons ban"?

6. Why do you think that allowing ordinary, cheese-eating Wisconsinites to legally carry a pistol will transform them into flesh-eating, sociopathic killers? Do you not trust the people? Are they just too fat and stupid to do as you wish? Do you need to command them?

Here in veggie and pork eating Hoosierland, we have been carrying for decades (even decades before Florida--the first state in the nation to do anything); and walking around with hidden weapons with no duty to retreat, ruthlessly gunning down women, minorities and Democrats in sandals that smell like burnt weeds. Where is the problem?

Oh, BTW, here in Indiana, we can carry "assault weapons" around. Where is the problem with that?

I don't have to imagine; it's a reality in the majority of the states in America. And guess what? These people do just fine determining when they can and cannot shoot!

This kid's even dumber than most college students. I wonder if he faked his high school transcripts.

Unfortunately, he's been able to encapsulate in very few words what such learned types such as newspaper editors need 1,000 words to say: concealed carry will result in more killings; citizens don't have the training that police do; permit holders will become vigilantes (the old "Wild West" argument); the bill is paying homage to the "gun lobby."

Only if the people of Wisconsin are dumber than those in 38 other states.
