Anyone know when the '97 was phased out of US Army service? Was it before or after Vietnam?

A 97 formed part of our crew equipment in 1970, but it was obtained through irregular channels. Saw a number of 97s then.
Also, A-5s, Savages, Ithacas, 870s and so on....
