This is JayJay:

He's a 9 year old pit bull who was brought in to a shelter starving, dirty, and with damage to his neck showing that he'd probably been chained up in a yard. Unfortunately, being a 9 year old pit bull, he wasn't easy to adopt out, and the day came that he was to be put down. Pit Bull Rescue of San Diego (http://www.pitbullrescuesandiego.com/) posted to CraigsList seeking a foster. I took one look, and couldn't help myself... I accepted. But I can't keep him... while I'm waiting to hear back from the County for my new job, I can, but that's only for another couple of weeks or so. If he goes back, he dies.

Even with his rough life, JayJay is absolutely the sweetest, gentlest, most adorable guy. He absolutely loves people and acclimated to me and my place very quickly.

Happily, I found someone who is willing to take him! But she doesn't have the $450 for a pet deposit. I told her I would try to find the money. If we can get enough in donations, great. If we get close, I'll make up the difference. I would ask her that, if she ever refunded the deposit, the money be donated back to Pit Bull Rescue of San Diego (http://www.pitbullrescuesandiego.com/)

Anything will help. Any "extra" money will be used to help other pit bulls. So many of these poor dogs lead awful lives and are then abandoned when they don't turn out to be good "guard dogs" or get too old or injured to fight. And they're some of the hardest to adopt out because of the bad press the breed gets. It is important to note that PBRSD fouses their efforts on dogs that pass an interaction test with people and other dogs... they aren't going to be placing the ones that are too far gone with dogs or that show any signs of aggression towards people.

To donate, go to http://www.pitbullrescuesandiego.com/donationsandmembership.htm and click on the "Click Here To Donate" picture. I can't copy-and-paste the link directly to the right PayPal site. If there's a way to leave a note, just say "For JayJay". If not, email me and let me know how much you left. And if you don't want to use PayPal, I would be glad to give you my address for a check which I could deliver to them.

My son's lovable pit bull ate our cat.

We always thought they were just playing. Well maybe the cat was.

The police finally shot the dog when he pulled a 6 foot steel spike out of the ground after a rain and ran through the neighborhood. A terrified neighbor called the police. We had had a case of a young child being horribly mauled by pit bulls.

The dog was back on our property and charged the police car when the officers showed up. Protecting his territory I guess. He would not let them out of the car.

I think they did the right thing, given the circumstances.
