I've never been to any kind of shooting competetion, just seen them on Outdoor Life Network and a few other shows. But it got me thinking. How about a Military style 3 gun event? 1911 handgun for short range work (wearing a web belt, military holster), and M1 Carbine for medium range targets and an M1 Garand for the long shots. All this of course while having to wear a steel GI helmet, and using as issued weapons. Extra points for original issue, of course!
You could even have matches based on historical years. Do a later year shoot using the M14 style weapons and even later using the Beretta 9's and AR-15's.

Thoughts????

BTW, the guy that shows up with the Shermin tank, wins.....:what:

Well I shot the West Point combat weapons three gun match yesterday and am still feeling it today. It was a great match. Some very interesting stages and the cadetes of the CWT made good ROs. For their first match I thought it was very well run. It was one of the more mentaly and physicaly demanding matches I have shot. Just having to lug all the gear around from stage to stage was a work out. I am glad there was no trooper class this time, mabey I'll sign up for it next time if I whip myself in to better shape.
It was a fun match and had a huge prize table, every shooter came away with something. You cant ask for more than that.
The weather even cooperated, after 6 days of rain it finally cleared up. The Ranges were still wet but that only added to the feel of the match. Slogging through the mud and riding around in Humvees was a total blast.
There is a rummor that the CWT is planning another match in the spring so keep an eye out for the announcement.

1897 Winchester Trench gun/1911 or 1917 Revolver/ and BAR?

Yeah, other than the $20k to fork over for the Browning, I think it's do-able.

Thing is if you wanted to dress up and play army for the Germans, Japanese or Russians they didn't issue shotguns.

I thought everyone on THR had a BAR ;)

Actually instead of the traditional 3 gun using a shotgun, I was thinking of Garand, Carbine and 1911A1. The basic arms of WWII that anyone can collect easy today. Even new replicas of these are out there to be had.

Well if it was a German/Japanese/Russian what would you use?

The "Carbine" is unique (unless you allowed semi auto versions of SMGs).

Nambu, Hammer and a bomb "lack of good weapons is no excuse for lack of fighting spirit" (actual quote by commander defending Okinawa).

All kiddding aside... it really does make you realize what an advantage we had in small arms in WW2.
