I have not shot the Stevens 200 but have looked at buying one. Does the barrel attach in the same way as the standard Savage? I'd like to be able to swap barrels around just for kicks.

Yea, basicaly an accutriger-less savage under a different name.

i was, and still am, considering the 200 short action in .223. It has a 1-9" twist needed to stabalize the heavyer 65+ grain bullets. Most manufacturors only offer slower, 1-12" twist barrels for the lighter varmint bullets.

$320 for a rifle from a quality manufacturor with a free-floated barrel and synthetic stock? Thats a hard thing to resist :p

Hey ScoutSniper,
Where did you get her from and how much dinero?
Why I asked because I may need a back-up for my Indian Lee Enfield (also in .308) and this may be a good excuse to get one:D .
What part of Tejas you hail from?

$320 for a rifle from a quality manufacturer with a free-floated barrel and synthetic stock? That's MSRP. Most guys are getting them for $250-$280. And any aftermarket stock that will fit a Savage will fit a Stevens (they're also dual pillar bedded). Also, being the same rifle, any scope mounts for a Savage will fit a Stevens.

The rifle in this link http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=161634 is a Stevens 200. (.243 Win)

This rifle is great, especially for the price. I paid $289, then slapped a $200 Leupold scope on it and I'm ready to go. (Well, that and about $50 in paint... )

I've only got 40 rounds through her but she's getting under 3/4" groups at 100 yards with Federal 70gr NBTs.

Awesome deal on a rifle.

ps. You may want to go ahead and treat yourself to a real metal trigger guard for your stevens. SSS has them. http://www.savageshooters.net/sharpshooters/FactoryParts.html

At a mere $20, you'll be glad you did. The plastic one makes it feel like a Remington 710, but the Stevens is a far cry from that POS.

Darn good price..... I guess I'll have to talk to Bill Carter (Carter's Country Firearms) to get me one. I like to go to the store(headquarters) with the outdoor range because he's mostly there (if he isn't out hunting:D ). I know he has .30-06 & .270 in stock because he had them on sale for $250:what: .

Just picked up a Stevens 200 in .308 last week for $270. It's going to be my primary pig hunting rifle now...replacing my HEAVY Enfield .303. I'm really looking forward to not lugging around a 10 pound rifle in the field. The Stevens ought to be much more accurate to boot :)

I bought one in .243 from a fellow on this forum to use as a cheap back up gun. I mounted a $50.00 Simmons scope on it and grabbed some old handloads. It zeroed easily and after firing a shot/clean five times, it fired a 1" group (3 shots). I think they're a great buy.
