Today the manufactoring industry is a global effort. Parts are made all over the world. A company will use the least expensive part it can get to it's specification no matter where it's made. So does it even matter where it may be assembled?

No, they have an autoloader .22LR. Very nice shooting rifle, but made in Japan.

Mine is like this one:

My father has one exactly like it, same grade, but his was bought in 1968. It is not made in Japan
but I can't talk him out of it. Yet

If you are only counting NEW guns then this is the breakbown

Japan - Howa 1500 .223 (Sold it, good gun, just hated the .223.)
Saiga 7.62x39 - Russia (Just finished the pistol grip conversion tonight. )
Ruger 10/22 - USA (Really tricked it out.)

As far as I know these are the only "new" guns that I own.

I have a Browning stamped with "Made in Japan".

The Japanese make very high quality guitars. I can't imagine their machining in guns is any less than awesome.

Every single gun I own is made in the USA. I have yet to find an import that I like better than an American made counterpart. But there are nice imports out there.

I have a Browning stamped with "Made in Japan". My dad has a Browing .22 lever made in Japan. Mom gave him it to him years ago. I expect to get the few guns he owns eventually, but am unsure what to do with this one. Maybe Flitz the "made in Japan" off?:)
