Purchasing Firearms Outside of the United States

Is anyone vaguely familiar with how to import purchased weapons from outside of the United States? In specific, I imagine they must be shipped to an FFL but what about unconstitutional serial numbering, etc.?

As far as I know, it is totally impossible.
I've spoken to people who were trying to figure out how to import TIGR's and other Russian firearm's and they were told that it would be totally impossible to do.
Perhaps this is just because there is a ban against importing Russian small arms, but I know it is also impossible to import a FAMAS from France, so I think it is across the board verboten.
Maybe if you are trying to get an antique, but otherwise I think you are screwed.

1.Befriend a soldier. Not the average joe, but someone with at least one star.
2. Ask him to bring you back an AK.

first you need to get a form from the ATF called something like
"Permit to Import Implement of War"
you'll need 4 copies
You fill them out and send 3 to the ATF and one to U.S. Customs
a few months later the ATF will send you your permit with a a HUGE rubber stamped "NOT FOR RESALE" on it
at least that's how I imported an Over-and-Under 12 gauge from Turkey...

First you need to find an FFL that will receive the firearm. You then need to submit ATF FORM 6 - Part I (5330.3A) to ATF. *IF* they approve the importation, your FFL then presents the approved ATF FORM 6 - Part 1 and a completed ATF FORM 6A to the US Customs Service.
However, the odds of getting approval for an "AK variant" is slim. The firearm MUST be classified as a "sporting" firearm by ATF. You CAN NOT import military firearms or machineguns. A Russian made AK-47 is not going to get approved. If it isn't a machinegun now, it probably started life as one and ATF considers guns to be "once a machinegun, always a machinegun."
2. Ask him to bring you back an AK.
3. Ask for adjoining cells at Club Fed so you and the General can talk about the stupidity of smuggling machineguns into the US.

I know a guy who claims he knows a guy smuggled back two AKs from Iraq, and his dad has them hidden in another state. I told him how much fun his buddy was going to have in prison for 60 years, 30 for each rifle.....idiot.

At least he'll have his father as a cell mate ...

That's for your help. I'm still trying to find a dealer who is willing to accept an out-of-US import. It seems no one wants to deal with it because upon doing so, it is akin to being audited by the IRS and I'm not rich enough to pay someone to take the time to do so. :banghead: I'm still searching though.
