can anyone think of the cheapest possible way to get a 1 MOA rifle?

I think a rebarrelled and bedded mauser for 125 would probably take the cake, how bout you?

If you can get either a M96 Swedish Mauser or a M39 Finnish Mosin-Nagant in decent condition it should be a subMOA rifle with the right ammo.

Also, I keep hearing good things about the New England Firearm single shot break action rifles. Most of them are MOA or better if you believe the scuttlebutt.

BTW, don't go rebarreling/bedding mil-surplus bolt guns until you've shot them. Most of them will surprise you, especially after you get rid of the multiple barrel bands and bayonet mounting hardware by cutting the stock down a bit.

I'd say for a consistant 1 MOA rifle, Savage 12FV.

I had a NEF/H&R Ultra Varmint heavy barrel in 223. I never shot for group size but I put 10 rounds in 4" at 175 yards (longest I could shoot safely) off a boot rest (yes, you read that right) with some Coyote soft point ammo that I got for $10/50. I was the limiting factor, I have no doubt. Well, me and the trigger.

Had a big honkin' Simmons 6-18x50 scope on it and sold it for more than I paid for it. I have no complains about that rifle save the trigger but I'm told H&R will tune it just for the cost of shipping. Not sure if Marlin still honors that or not.

Second the motion on the NEF's. I'm looking at picking one up, because most of the guys who have them report sub-MOA performance if you do your part (and get the free trigger job that Marlin still honors). They have a discussion forum over at www.hr1871.com
