Here's the information that was provided to me from one of my co-workers. He's in posession of a bolt action rifle with the following stamps in the barrel:

Sears Roebuck, 3006 Springfield, & "Ted Wiliams" autograph.

Who manufactured it? ... because he doesn't know. How many were made, and how much do you think it's worth?

Thanks

With a model number the Blue Book will tell you who made it. Sears had several people make stuff for them (Marlin, Winchester, Stevens, Cooey, Antonio Zoli, Savage, H&R, Sako, High Standard, J.C. Higgins, Voere, Mossberg, Springfield, Bolto, CBC, FIE, Fox, I think that's it) Really runs the gambit. Usually store named stuff doesn't sell well though since people don't know about parts and what will fit on them.

I don't know of a way to cross-reference it without the model though.

Good luck with it!

You may be able to get some help by looking at the proof marks. Winchester proofs are different than, say european proof marks. A book would tell you what each meant in terms of mfg.

Somewhere, perhaps below the woodline, the country of origin should be evident. One of the gun digests/shooters bible type books should help you distinguish models and manufacturers.

A "Ted Williams" .30-06 rifle is most likely a post-64 Winchester Model 70 with Sears trademarks and some cosmetic changes. Not uncommon in the 1970s until Sears quit selling guns, value of a very few hundreds of dollars for a sound but unremarkable hunting rifle.

Like Ohen says, without the model number it could have been made by anybody. The only 'Ted Williams' mentioned on the Gunparts cross reference page is a .22lr made by Ithaca. However, go here. http://www.e-gunparts.com/crossref.asp

Sunray, could this be it? Found at mid-page.

Sears T.W. 73 - House Brand
273.1390 - Model No.
Winchester - (What's MFGR? It can't be "Manufacturer")
NM 70(30-06) - Original Model

So the underlined is what I believe could be the answer.

Again, thanks everyone for your input.

Looks like you got it. Winchester.

Not sure if it's a typo or if it matters, but my book says MN, not NM. Might matter if you're searching for stuff.

Should be a good gun, but not worth a great deal.
