Look at this

This shell was fired by a Glock 17. It blew the magazine out of the gun,and burnt the shooters trigger finger. The police dept had these range pick-ups reloaded by a company, and were supposed to be factory reman ammo. Bad brass? Glock problem? I looked at his barrel, and the feed ramp was cut into the chamber about the size of this blowout. anyone have any ideas? JDGray

you get a lot of opinions espically becuse its a glock..
Looks like a hot load and possibly a overcut chamber from what you describe my Glock 17 barrel is very tight compared to others ive seen

Id say by the location of the damage on the case......an unsupported chamber had alot to do with it also. Many guns would have had less damage with a supported chamber.
Shoot well.

The Glock doesn't have an unsupported chamber. That is an urban myth. The chamber isn't fully supported at the 6 o' clock position to approximately the degree of the 1911, but it is supported and the barrel itself is of pretty sturdy construction.
Glock chambers are supposed to be cut pretty loose and lack some support at the 6 o' clock position to aid in reliability. This can result in case bulge and reduced case life. Glock addresses this by recommending against reloading. If you reload for a Glock you should maybe look into a KKM or Barsto barrel.

The 1911 has an unsupported chamber also. Here is a link to some pictures of chambers. http://www.steyrclub.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1059

And those first pics of blown brass? My first inclination, without even seeing the gun, would have been to ask if it was fired in a Glock. That's not from reading up on it on the Internet, that's from seeing so much bulged Glock brass over the years as a range safety officer. ;)

Most useful pic Gewehr - mind if I archive that for future ref and display - credits to you, of course :)

I have a 9mm case that looks almost exactly like that. It came from an Uzi I was shooting about 25 years ago. Of course, I was firing bursts from it and I hadn't cleaned the chamber in a few hundred rounds, but I attributed it to a slam-fire on a round that hadn't fully seated into the chamber. A piece of the brass worked its way out of my chin a few months later fromthe incident.
Could be anything, but my best guess is either it was fired while not fully in battery or an unsupported case head. I strongly doubt it was the fault of the load.

Rabbit.

You can attribute them to the link that ShelbyV8 posted.
But they are a good illustration of the Glock unsupported chamber problem, compared to other autoloaders.

Thanks for all the info! I will try to talk him out of shooting any more reloads out of his Glock. JDGray
