Ok, just recently bought H&R M-14 and went to the range. The weather was windy and rainy. We basically tried several handloads and sellier belliot factory ammo.

The best accuracy was with lapua lock-base 11g handload using Vihtavuori powder. Five shot groups were 40mm from bench, distance 100m(with iron sights). I was surprised how easy it was to shoot, atleast for me. Easily the best from G3, ak 74, valmet and other ak variants and the sling helped my shooting alot.

Also tried fast shooting with sellier ammo and I was able to hold the shots within a little empty oil container aprox. 10" wide.

I would be interested to know how well your M-14 shoots from the bench, I'm pretty certain that 40/100m is not the final word.

Sal, with iron sights, thats pretty good. Although I have a match barrel, match ammo, and a match front sight, Id have trouble consistantly shooting better than that. If you installed a scope on that rifle, you would see that it can shoot better groups than that! Have fun! (To all us Yanks, 40mm = 1.57")
