I am looking into the long slide XD9. Any users here? What is a fair price? Caveats?

Hop on over to www.xdtalk.com for more information about the XD-9 Tactical.

Expect to pay between $450 and $500 for an XD-9 Tactical. As for caveats, one of the most common complaints about the XD line of pistols is the weak finish applied on the slide, and its propensity towards developing surface rust spots if the finish is not kept constantly oiled. My XD-40 Tactical had to go back to Springfield three consecutive times right after I purchased it in 2002, to address problems with the finish.

Finish problems aside, the Tactical is an exceedingly accurate pistol that is a total joy to shoot (due to its excellent ergonomics). My XD-40 Tactical currently has over 20,000 handloaded rounds through it, and it has never, ever jammed or misfed through all those rounds. I did discover a chip in the locking block earlier this year (as chronicled here (http://www.hs2000talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=16575&highlight=)), but Springfield was quick to send a replacement locking block.

Another nice feature is that both the 9mm and 40S&W versions of the Tactical take regular 1911 recoil springs. You can buy springs of varying poundage to "tune" the recoil characteristics to your liking.

Here's a "glamour shot" of my XD-40 that I took a few nights ago:

One is selling over there (http://www.hs2000talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=26693) now.

Tacticals are harder to come by than the other lengths. I looked for a while then got a service model.

You might want to think about a 40. You can put a 9mm barrel in a XD40 but you can't put a 40 barrel in a XD9. There have been some reports of the XD9 being loose in holsters since so many of them are molded to the XD40.
