I'm looking into this gun for a concealed carry gun. In California we will have new laws in 2006 that say all handguns sold must have loaded-chamber indicator or a magazine safety disconnect. In 2007, handguns will be required to have both. My question is, is there a magazine safety disconnect available for the HK 2000sk? I can't find my answers other places.

Need to know, 'cause if it doesn't have one I guess I'll have buy it sooner rather than later. :p

I dont have the H&K SK but I do have an H&K P2000 in 40 S&W and there was a small red piece of paint that used to be a loaded chamber indicator but has since dissapeared, I have used gun scrubber and mainly hoppes #9 on the gun.....
I would check out hkpro.com they should be able to give you more information or you could E-mail H&K directly to ask your question.....drf

This law does not matter if buying a handgun through a private sale or if it already on the list of "safe handguns". If HK keeps paying the fee to keep this gun on the list, the new law will not apply to that model. Look on the list to see when it expires and if it really bothers you it may not be recertified, buy it.

Yes. According to the owner's manual, a magazine disconnect option is available.

Now what about an external safety? Are they not available on these models? Not even a trigger safety like the Glock? Why?

The V3 would be perfect if it has the external safety.
I've been looking at the Glock 29 lately... but don't think I want a 10mm for carry. A .40 will do just fine.

No XD's, Sigs, or Kahr's. ;)

The HK USP compact has an external safety. The 2000 does not.

Hmm, that kind of bothers me. But I went and held the XD, Glock, and HK P2000 tonight. I like the HK bar none. Glock was just too wide for a concealed gun, the XD did nothing for me. I did check out a Kahr, but it was pretty expensive and I haven't heard too many things about that company. The HK seems best, I guess I just won't carry it with one in the chamber. :(

Any other suggestions for a concealed gun?

i just picked up a buddies beretta px4 storm. pretty nice piece, i can't remember if it had a loaded chamber indicator or mag safety disconnect, check out www.px4storm.com and see for yourself. it does have the beretta 92 style external safety on the slide. (i personally don't care for the design because you cannot keep the hammer cocked with the safety on, it automatically goes forward when you put it on safe). but if you like da/sa pistols, that one definitely feels good in the hand and points very well, probably just as good if not better than my xd, which I like quite a bit and it's noticably more comfortable as well. just an idea that hasn't been brought up yet. (the cx4 storm would make a great companion to that for home defense as well, i'm thinking about picking one up eventually - www.cx4storm.com)

Did you look at the P2000 or the P2000sk? The P2000 comes in DA/SA with a decocker. The manual safety is not needed.......

I would say that the H&K is just as wide as the Glock.....drf

I've looked at the P2000. But I want the P2000SK. The P2000 compared to the Glock 29 and the HK P2000 felt much thinner. I also held the Glock 27 and I still liked the way the P2000 fit in my hand. As of now I've pretty much ruled out the Glock. I was just kind of stuck on the 10mm thing.

I guess I don't feel comfortable carrying a gun with one in the chamber w/o an external safety or even a trigger safety. I guess it would just force me to not carry a round in the chamber. But I don't like that either.

The Glock just didn't do it for me. I also held the Kahr 9mm and although it was slim and small, it didn't feel sturdy in my hand. I also held the XD subcompact, didn't like it. Although I did like it better than the Glock.

Do you guys that carry concealed worry about not having a trigger safety and carrying one in the chamber? Sure you have to overcome the heavy DA trigger, but,... I'm always worried about that sort of thing.

The PX4 is too large. It's not a sub compact...

The are making a sub-com model. Not sure of the name, but I did handle one at a shop a couple weeks back. Cute little thing, but didn't have the capacity I was looking for.

I too am looking at the P 2000 for a CCW. All checks are a go so far.

I'm on my 10day wait for my P2000SK. Ended up paying $711 for it. :)

CDNN is selling the P2000SK for $679, but they won't sell guns to Californians. :(

Hi Justang...

Thats a pretty good price on a P2000SK in Socal, may I ask where you bought it from?

If you'd like you can PM the location, it'd be much appreciated.

Many thanks, and congrats!

Jon's Gunworks in Ridgecrest, CA.
I live in Costa Mesa. Ridgecrest is 190miles away. It's my home town, so I buy my guns there. It gives me a reason to go see my family. And it saves me some money. I timed this purchase so I can pick it up right before Thanksgiving.

Jon charges 10% over his cost +tax +DROS. The price I gave you was before tax and DROS.

His site always says he's going out of business. lol.

Thanks Justang for the reply. That is quite a drive, but I do have friends up in the city. I'll have to check that shop out next time I drive up there.

Thanks again.
