Why was the Mossberg 5500 discontinued?

It doesn't seem much different from Mossberg's current semi-autos. Did it have a flaw that I am not aware of?

2.75" 5500 was replaced by the more versatile 2.75'-3" Model 9200 which was replaced by the 3.5" 935 which never works well with any but the heaviest 2.75" loads and this gun has been supplemented by another 2.75"-3" which I think Mossberg is calling the Model 925.
Each design features a modified and improved gas system over the older models which makes repairing them something of a pain in the backside.HTH
