I don't know about CA specifically, but silencers do fall under Federal control, just like select fire or full auto weapons. Possession of all such unregistered items is a felony under Federal law.

According to Mr. Bardwell, suppressors are illegal in CA.

They are illegal unless you have a Class III license.

Class III devices have been illegal in CA for how long now?

I think it's time to move.

Thanks for clearing that up! An aquaintance asked me the question...I figured it would be Negatory, but asked anyway. BTW, I have an uneasy feeling when people need to know these things...unless they're a writer or something like that:rolleyes:

Speaking of suppressers
Live in PA and Am thinking about buying one for a AR-15. I was looking at them in GunsAmerica.com. Suppressers for the AR-15 in .223 go anywhere from $350 to $1200 what's the difference. I know how supresors work and fired many guns that where suppressed. It was sup rising how little I actually know. could some help me out.

Sound Suppressor Information (http://www.guns.connect.fi/gow/highpow.html) . Everything you ever wanted to know.

One thing, you can only put suppressors on pre-ban AR-15's or full auto M16's. ATF considers them a "flash suppressors" in addition to sound suppressors.

Don't hold your breath. Quietest supressed centerfire rifle I have seen to date (de Lisle excepted) is the Chandler arms unit. Unbelievably quiet with sub sonic .308 (like .22 CB).I saw one in Arizona last Fall trip there, amazing.

Thanks for those pages, they where very informative. It mite be better to get a hole upper with the suppresser already installed. Since the bullet has to be slowed down, you can get away with a shorter barrel. Less then 16''. But the class3 manufacture can make up the difference with the suppresser. So just on $200 tax. All so that upper can be sited in for the suppresser.
If I missed something please let me know. Thanks
