Miami tonight

I finally got internet access at one of my work sites. They have a huge diesel generator also.

Since Sunday night, no power at home, or telephone. Cell service is very spotty. Many towers were damaged.
Lots of gas at the stations, just no power to pump it. 18 out of 2600+ traffic lights work. Chaos at almost every intersection.
The ususal crowd ran out of ice and water after the first day. With no TV, and limited info on the radio, I Know less about what is happening here in South FL, than I did with Katrina.

I have adequate food, water, propane, white gas, batteries, and other essential supplies. I filled the car and truck with gas on Friday, and I have several 6 gallon tanks in the garage.

We are all fine, no problems with looters or the neighbors. Everyone has helped each other clear debris, share food, help the elderly, etc. Much different here than in New Orleans, thats for sure.

Sounds like you're doing okay, but please keep us posted, in the event you need school buses. :p

After things return to normal you can amuse yourself by reading about all the things the unprepared folks were doing while you carried on and managed just fine without official help.

Glad to here it's going (reasonably) well over there. Knoiwing that you're prepared sure lowers the stress, doesn't it?

Well, its Friday night, and at 7pm, the power came back on :)

For our blessings, we are truely greatful! About 50% of Miami-Dade is still in the dark, as is most of Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

I have to say, that things learned here, and some common sense, provided my family with all we needed to handle this adversity. We never suffered a moment of anxiety, hardship, or trouble. After 5 days, I have not even touched the 'hurricane supplies', never changed flashlight batteries, or came close to using up the propane, Coleman fuel, or other supplies.

Its good to be back on line though :)
