Anyone have any experiences with this pistol? I found a pretty good deal on a S&W 915 with hi-caps and was wondering what you all think of them (if you own one).

It will be serviceable, but being a "value series" gun it will not have Novak sights and will have an inferior finish.
What price and condition are we talking about? I have passed up value series guns like the 411 and 915 used at $300 but that would actually be a fair price.

I'm not overly concerned with the finish since I likely won't be carrying it any time soon, but what are Novak sights and what is the difference between those and whatever kind of sights the 915 has?

I had a 915. I even bought a few hicaps for it as that was right after the previous hicap ban. I did not like the gun, although it was reliable out of the box, the accuracy was poor relative to my other 9MM's. Could have just been that gun, but I didn't like it so sold it pretty quickly.

Actually, I have a more positive response to the 915. I purchased n.i.b. a few years back and I found any inaccuracy on the range was my own doing. I fire it consistently and can honestly say, not like some I know with some expensive pistols, that it hasn't FTF: not once. It is reliable....
Juna, the only Novak sights I'm familiar with is a low-profile, 3-dot sight..The 915 has a drift-adjustable square rear notch and the front sight is a drift-adjustable white dot blade.

They are indeed reliable, so-so on accuracy. The 915 was my first ever 9mm, wish I'd kept it. I shot the pistol often, thousands of rounds and never a malfunction. I bought mine in early '95...this is when they were including only one 15 round mag.
I really wish I'd kept the thing.....

I have one. Unreal reliability. Accurate. Not a target pistol but accurate. It has taken 1000's of rounds of different kinds of ammo and never ever ever so much as hiccuped. Don't believe me? Don't care.

If you're buying it to shoot it, that's exactly what it will do, and more than likely pretty well too.

I don't have the 915, but I do have the 457, another member of the value line. I've found this gun to be every bit as good as my 4516 and as reliable as any 3rd generation S&W auto I own (& I have 7 of them). I'd rather have a steel frame than aluminum, but that's really just a irrational bias on my part. Couple things to be aware of: you probably noticed that the safety is not ambi & the sights (as already pointed out) are plastic Novak style, but the cuts in the slide are NOT the same as for Novak sights - no problem really, I found some night sights specifically made for the value line guns.
