I recently purchased 5 acres and a new double wide and im looking for a good gun safe or possibly a good "hidey hole" type setup to store my long guns and pistols. Ive looked at the top of the line gun safes but am afraid that they may be too heavy to set. You guys with mobile homes, how are you storing your guns?

Mobile homes are more sturdy than most people think. I've done quite a few gun safe installations inside of mobile homes, the largest being 800 pounds.
We suggest that the safe be placed in a room over one of the trailer's frame rails, and adding a set of blocks under the rail directly under the safe.

You might want to take a look at http://www.zanottiarmor.com
I have 2 of them. They come apart and can be assembled.

Hey GunFixer! Did you do a search on "safe" and decide to plug Zanotti on everything that turned up? Some of these threads you posted on are 2 or 3 years old. It's awfully suspicious that every post you've made since you joined today is to plug a safe manufacturer! Are Zanotti sales down? Trying to drum up some business? :scrutiny:

I was just reading through the posts. I guess I wasn't paying attention to the dates on the comments. Sorry about that. I have a little gunsmithing business and I have really liked the Zanotti products. I thought the purpose of these forums was to exchange information. I was simply trying to relay a positive experience that I have had with a particular product. I also talk about the products that I have used that I have been dissapointed with. I noticed in one of your posts that you put a link in to Davidsons.... Are you trying to drum up business for them or were you simply exchanging information about SKS's?

I sell true safes. I'm a professional locksmith who specializes in safes. The largest one I've placed in a mobil home ran 1300 lbs. empty. That's been some few years ago now & I haven't had any feedback about problems. In fact I sent a tech out there recently to change the combination & he didn't report any comments related to weight either. There were some comments concerning relatives & the need to change the combo, but the installation has been problem free.
As was mentioned, careful placement is the key. Study the floor plan & consider underpinning, if necessary, to put it where you need it to go.

I had a cheap sheet metal gun safe in my old house.
I put it in the corner in the closet and lag bolted it to two walls.
Anyone who would try to pry it open or pry it loose would find it very awkward in that closet.
