MELBOURNE -- Shooting sports fans in Brevard and Indian River counties now have their own call-in radio show.

Holden Kriss, the range manager for the Indian River Public Shooting Range west of Sebastian, is the host of the talk show being aired each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Melbourne's WMEL 920-AM.

"This is one of only a few locally-produced shooting sports radio shows in Florida," said Kriss, who brings a wealth of information to the show as a nationally-recognized expert on all aspects of shooting sports. Kriss has more than 20 years of experience as a certified instructor, shooting coach and even shooting referee.

"We're looking more for the recreation angle, covering things like rifle and pistol marksmanship, paintball games, and women in shooting," said Kriss, who managed the Markham Regional Target Range in Broward County for 12 years before taking the Indian River County position two years ago.

Kriss said his weekly guests will include state officials and local shooters. Bill Mick, the station's morning talk show host, will be assisting Kriss during the first few weeks of the show.

On Saturday, during the third airing of the show, guest Gary Morris, an official from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, will outline some of the hunting areas around central Florida, and he will talk about the FWC's youth camps and youth shooting programs, as well as the FWC's popular Becoming an Outdoors Woman program.

Tom Martin, a sales associate for WMEL, and a shooting enthusiast developed the idea for the show.

"It's a unique show for this area," Martin said. "It's the only one of its kind in this part of the state as far as we know."

WMEL is one of only a few locally owned and operated radio stations in Florida. It is owned by John Harper from the Melbourne area.

For more information about the show, call the station at (321) 254-2282.
