I have a series 70 gold cup which I have not fired for a number of years. When I started shooting it recently, using Remington 185 grain ammunition, it would fail to extract on the third or fourth round in each clip. Is this likely an extractor or recoil spring issue? Are there any recomendations for competent gunsmiths in the SF Bay area that could go through the gun?

Howdy and welcome aboard.

It's the extractor. Take it out and bend it just a little...Easy does it. Too much and you'll get failures to go to battery. Better to have to repeat until you find the sweet spot than bend it too much and have to straighten it.

Not hard to do...If ya need more explicit instructions, get back on the thread and sing out.

Thanks for the advice. My goal is to shoot the Gold Cup until I can move up to a higher quality custom or semi custom 45. I have found, however, that California seems to do everything possible to make buying quality pistols difficult. So I may be shooting the Gold Cup for a while!

You already have the best, just needs a little tuning:D
