Does anyone know what the penalty is if you are caught carrying concealed in a state that doesn't have a reciprocal agreement with your issuing state?

Misdemeanor or felony? Depends on the state's codes??

I'm asking in reference to those of you who might cross into a bordering state and forget you're "packin".

Depends totally on local laws.

my uneducated guess would be that you would be charged with the crime of carrying concealed without a valid permit.

in my state that would be a class b misdemeanor.
and i just discovered that carrying into a premise where intoxicating liquor is sold for consumption on premises is also class b misdemeanor. gotta do some more research on this, i was convinced it was okay so long as i dont consume any alcohol.

New Mexico gives people a $25 citation (aka: traffic ticket) for carrying concealed (NM does not have any CCW), its still $25 regardless of number of times caught. Maryland, you get one strike as a misdeminor(?), second strike is a felony.
It all depends on what state you wander into.

Well, I'm guessing that you might get lucky and get a cop who uses some common sense. If he/she sees you have a permit in your state and you aren't far away and/or are on a common travel route I could see some cops looking the other way assuming you aren't getting into real trouble otherwise. However, I wouldn't want to count on that.

Otherwise, it would be the same as someone with no CCW anywhere (such as the typical resident of said state) being caught with a concealed gun. Depending upon the state it could be anything from a "slap on the wrist" misdemeanor to a jail sentence misdemeanor to a full fledged felony. Also, some localities within that state may be even worse. In addition, you could be facing more than one charge (illegal carry for carrying, if the state/city requires registration/licensing possession of a gun without license/unregistered gun, if the city/county bans guns altogether- well then you could be really up the creek).

Felony in Illinois. Other states are different.

but i forgot, my state recognizes ALL ccw's from ALL states!

and if you do go into another state, it really is your responsibility to be fully aware of the laws. it isnt rocket science or brain surgery. all it takes is some simple web searches to find the statutes and read them.
