Ever seen a commemorative pistol with gold bullets?

Does anyone here remember a special issue commemorative 1911 that was issued in the late 80s or early 90s? It was heavily detailed and I remember it was supposed to come with one magazines worth of ammo using solid gold bullets. They were hollowpoints and had diamonds in the hollow. As I recall the government told them they couldn't sell the ammo like that because the diamond tips made them "armor piercing" ammunition.

The whole thing came in a wooden display box. I considered getting one at the time but it was way outside of what a poor specialist in the army could afford. Does anyone here remember anything like this? I've tried google without success.

Pretty sure I recall a Franklin Mint style 45 with gold plated display bullets, as opposed to loaded ammunition.

My Grandfather was an avid gun guy, and had, when I was about 5 or 6, a gold plated Colt revolver in a display case with gold display bullets. Supposedly, I was supposed to inherit the gun, however when my grandparents passed away, the gun magically disappeared.

He lived in Hartford and had all sorts of Colt stuff.

Never seen gold bullets, but I keep a stock of silver bullets in case of werewolf invasion. :neener:

The great thing about gold bullets with diamond inlay is that they match my gold frame Ferrari brand sunglasses that also match the gold chains that go across my white patent leather shoes that go with my white patent leather belt that I wear with my robin egg shell blue jump suit. Of course I top the whole ensemble off with my gold pinky ring with a bunch of diamonds in the shape of a lucky horseshoe. :neener: :D

You put just enough thought into that to be quite suspicious, if you ask me. ;)
