I picked up a NIB S&W 686 6". I got used to Glock 21 and USP45, I found the new revolver grip is a bit small. Is there similar grip like the one that comes with it, but slightly larger, (wider and a bit longer on the bottom for the pinky?)

The vast majority of the 6 inchers came with the largest grips for that frame. If NIB are you sure that the grips won't changed out for something like a bootgrip which is a concealment style grip?

If it came with the rubber grips with an open backstrap, a pair of Pachmayr Decelerators might feel better to you.

Yeah those are the factory grips... man ergonomics sure is a personal thing I personally love my Hogue grips on my 686. But to answer the question, a bigger grip I have not seen. Pachmayrs do feel differently and have a different shape however, they might be more to your liking.

The old style Pachmayr presentation grips are larger than the Hogues.
They are shaped a lot likethe original wooden stocks.

Perhaps the X frame grip available from S&W would be more to your liking. It's my understanding that the way it's made it will fit a X, N or L round butt frame. You can get info by calling S&W. It's a bit thicker and covers the backstrap.

Another option is to have wooden grips made for your hand. Herret will make grips measured for your hand. Just keep in mind that custom wooden grips are expensive, but they are awfully nice.

I never thought about that, sounds like a great idea. Does that actually work?

Since the K/L frame fit so many hands the X-frame copied that grip frame size.

gudel... I never met a pair of Hogue grips that I liked... just my personal response to them. I presume your frame has a round grip frame. With such guns (with long barrels) I find the round to square grips provide the necessary lower palm "wedge" support to counter the out front barrel weight. You might try a pair of Ahrends round to square finger groove grips... I find they lock the revo in my hand like is was made to fit me. If you have medium to med/large hands they will probably fit you like a glove. If your hands are exceptionally large or small, the finger groove spacing might not fit you well. I love and much prefer the finger grooves because they really help lock the gun into my hand... helpful with heavier magnum loads.

They would be shaped like these square butt grips (which happen to be made from exotic cocobolo wood).

Often I have to adjust my grip when shooting, a bit short of a grip on the pinky side.

I use the S&W X frame (model 500) grips on my 629's (.44 mag). They look nearly the same but fit my hand much better. I ordered mine from the Smith and Wesson web site. Don't remember the price but they were reasonable.

BTW. My 686's wear Hogue finger grove wood. Check out the Hogue auction site for good deals.
