Metal finishing

I am new to the forum and new to a lot of this. But here goes, I have an Ishapore 2A reciever and bolt. I bought a barrel from Numrich and am going to blue the whole shebang, then put a Boyds stock on it. I want a better look than the original enamel and the metal is rough (this is an understatement) How much polishing can I do? Is it Ok to remove enough metal to get rid of the tooling marks?
P.S. I read the bit on Sporterizing Vs Restoring, 1:The Serial #'s on this reciever and barrel DO NOT match. 2:I have another in Original config that I am restoring. 3:And most Important, It's my toy and I paid for it with my Money.:neener:

Some finishes, like parkerizing and the bake on "paint" jobs, do a good job of filling in light scratch marks. If the tool marks are really deep, a combination of light sanding and one of these finishes might work.
Remember that your rifle is meant to be a cheap but effective weapon. It's built for function, not for looks. Don't get too hung up on making it be something it's not.

My local gunsmith just charged me a whopping $40 each to sandblast and blue (no polishing) a No4Mk1 and a 2A Ishy. It might have been a bit cheaper if he hadn't had to disassemble them, but I was in a hurry that day and he needed a few more projects to make firing up the tanks worth his while......
Anyway, the sandblast-n-blue gives them a really nice matte finish that hides a lot of the tooling grain. Looks really nice and is very functional.
