I am curious as to what some of you think about these rifles?

I am now the owner of one in very good shape, with the deluxe checkering, I assume, and a nice weaver side mount scope rig.

I am drawing a blank on the 840. Can you show a picture or describe it?

Could it be a 340?

No idea what you're talking about, sorry.

It IS a savage 340, but before Savage took complete rights, I guess?

Its based on a Springfield action, or so I have been told.

The markings on the side show as Springfield/Savage.

The mag is marked as "for 30-30 or 225 only" so it is a few years old. :)

I will snap some pics tonight and post them up.

My big question is where can I go to get an idea of the age of this sweetie?

I'll bet the folks at www.savageshooters.com forum can help you out on the age.

They can be a little patronizing, but the information you get is generally pretty good.

Okay...here are some photos of the old girl...

Serial number is 268XXX. Can anyone on here get a date off that?

Thanks for the help!
