I have come across a couple of cans of Win 785 and Win 452. Anyone have any load data for these powders?

785 was the slowest burning Ball powder Winchester made, suitable for big magnum rifles only.
452 was mostly a shotgun powder but works well in pistols. I shot a lot of .45 ACP with 5.2 gr 452AA and a 200 gr SWC at 850 fps as well as 12 gauge trap loads.

I have an old Hornady guide that I 'think' has those powders listed. I do not have access to the book right now, but I will later this evening when I go to visit my family. What caliber and what bullet design/weight are you looking for data on? If no one helps you before tonight I will look it up for you.

The only rifle I reload is the 223. On handguns I load the 45, 40, 38/357, and 380. It was free powder so I would like to use it up. I appreciate any help you can give me.

What caliber, I have a couple of older books that have some loads. H450 was the same powder, like WW296/H110, HS7/571, HS6/540, HP38/WW231, H414/W760.

785 is too slow for that small case. You need something faster burning, like W748 or H335. H450 was the same powder/ burning rate as 785, like WW296/H110, HS7/571, HS6/540, HP38/WW231, H414/W760.

I am sorry Whipple, I just looked up .223 .45, .38, .357 Mag, and 380 (the manual predates .40 S&W) in my old Hornady guide and there are no loads listed using those powders. I guess I was wrong.

Well I thank you both for looking for me. I will pass the powder on to someone that loads a larger caliber.

I used to use 452AA and shot it quite a bit in .38 spl and .45 ACP. When Winchester discontinued it they came out with several new powders. Winchester Super Target, (WST) is one of these and is listed in Winchesters catalogs as being the replacement for 452AA. I now use WST powder and utilize the same charge weights I used with 452AA for target loads in .45 ACP. (4.1 gr. WSTand a 200 gr LSWC) A real tack driver, pussycat load.
YMMV

Thanks for the info Corey. I guess I can use it in my 45 auto.
