Gun fairy steals all you guns and leaves $20K

What would you do if you owned no guns, had 20K to spend, and a deadline to spend every cent in a month (custom orders are OK)...on guns... only guns - no accesories, ammo, gunsite training, or whatever. No need to mention brands...just pick a category that would best descibe your plan.
Thse are the guns you will die with -no selling A to buy B.

Would you:
A. Buy one collectors item.

B. Buy 1-5 high dollar pieces.

C. Buy a mix of shooters and a high dollar looker or two - 1-10 total.

D. Buy 10-30 moderately price 'tools' to meet all your needs.

E. Buy 100+ used and surplus guns that you could get for about $200 bucks apiece.

I'll try to find a MG42 or Thompson SMG for 20k.

Then I'll hunt down that fairy and make him pay for his nefarious ways. :neener:

I am thinking C would be the answer for me. I would probably spend 7K on 3 high dollar handguns, and the other 13K I would buy some very good pistols and a shotgun or two.

I'd get myself a transferable MP-5, a Beretta 92FS, a Remington 870 and an M1 Garand. Then I'd get a thousand rounds of ammo for each. This should leave me with around $2900, which I would plop firmly in my checking account.

I think I would get a registered M-16, then a maybe $1000-$1200 for an AR-15 set up for long range shooting, another $1500 or so for a "sniper" type bolt action, an early glock 20 with no finger grooves with 21 top half, a Sig 220 and 226 (used), then a CZ-452 lux. Whatever was leftover would go to C&R rifles and a CMP garand.

A few 10/22 rifles
AK rifles of different makes
FALs of different makes
A few CETME and G3 rifles
M1 Garand and carbine.
50 BMG rifle of some kind
Any other surplus gun I can get my hand on.

Somewhere between B, C and D for me. There is NOTHING like a full on custom built by a true master, the guys that have never owned one will never know how good it really can be. I would need to replace a master built IPSC blaster, a good custom carry gun and that would just about cover the custom guns. The rest would buy me another SuperX2 to cover all of my shotgun needs, a good rifle to do anything I need a rifle for, and the balance on old blued S&W revolvers. I have needs other than old blued S&W revolvers, but that is where my heart is when it comes to firearms.

Things like this remind me that I have a lot of fluff in my gun collection/accumulation. It darn sure is nice to have a problem as serious as 'fluff' in a gun collection.......

BAT action, Hart Barrel, Kelbly Stock, Jewell Trigger, Leupold and Billy Stevens. All told, probably about $4K.

Nice over/under shotgun $2K

2 decent 1911s $2K

Shorty AR and varmint AR $2K

Mac 11/9 $3K

Savage BVSS-S in .223, .22-250, and 7 rem mag, with fair optics $3K

Small frame short barrel .357

Small frame short barrel .44 special

Blow the rest on some SKSs and milsurp.

I go for option C. For twenty grand I can get some nice peices to satisfy the "neat-o" factor and plenty of useful hard work stuff to keep me in business for a while. 20K can go far if you don't impulse buy and plan your purchases with some forethought.

I'd buy 118 Makarovs.:)

I go with D with no safe queens.
One nice 30.06 bolt action shooter.
A few .223 types.
A selection of rifles including M1 Garands and Carbines.
A selection of pistols including a couple Kimbers until I run out of money.

Kind of what I have now, but a smaller collection.

D for sure.
Probably closer to the 30 mark.

A coupla rifles in .223, .308, .30-06, .30-30, .22. robably get all of them for about 5 grand, maybe 6.

a coupla handguns in 9mm, 10mm, .40, .45, a Freedom Arms .454 Casull (or maybe a super redhawk...) a few Glocks, a bunch of Sigs (probably used police guns) if I bought about 10 handguns, that'd be about 10 grand, conservatively.

2 or three nice shotguns... An 870 for defense, a nice Ruger o/u or side-by-side, and an automatic of some sort.

The rest? Ammo and range time. Maybe a safe, if I have any left over...

I wonder how the age demographic affects these choices.

I'm 55 years old, more into semi-retirement pursuits and riding my Harley. I have a couple of high-end pistols and one great .44 Rem Mag, and an entire gun room of items from 30 years of collecting.

I told my wife that the first wealthy man with a moving van and about $15K can have the entire room if I can keep a pistol or two.

I'd get a second computer and another big screen TV and have a quiet little den. You spend the first half of your life acquiring things, and the second half trying to figure out what to do with them.

And if the gun "Fairy"took all my guns and left me only $20K, I would be lookin for a Fairy!
__________________

I'd buy a .308 PSS with Nightforce scope, a good 1911, and an AR-15. I'd load up with some good ammunition. Then I'd hunt that skinflint thieving fairy down and get at least thirty thousand bucks from him. Out of his hide, if necessary.

Now if I came into 20K and didn't have to go fairy hunting, I'd buy a transferable 1919 Browning beltfed.

Gun Fairy would be much better off to just take my guns and leave me with no money to hunt him.

20K will just handle young collectors or those who have been spending money on raising children and such. I've been buying guns with no regard to my means for nigh on thirty-five years. Gun poor.

One used single shot twelve gauge. One 12 gauge shell, #9 shot (it's a fairy). Walk to nearest library and google 'gun fairy'. Find address with mapquest. Buy bus ticket. Ignore odd looks as you sit angrily on the bus clutching your shotgun. Kick in fairy door or fairy house. Torture fairy until location of collection is known. Kill fairy.

I think I would be a "D" kind of guy. While I enjoy looking at works of art in the gun world. I found the few times I have owned one I soon lost interest because I could not really "use" it.

I like a gun I can use, so I would go more with ones I could carry and shoot everyday if I wanted too. Big dollar gun would be a really nice double rifle, but with only 20K may not be swing that. Even the good work guns run high dollar.

Please place me in your will, to recieve all your guns and whatnot. We poor college students can barely afford our AR15s and Glocks.

If the fairy pulled that stunt, even if it took the safe along with the guns, I would still come out wayyyy ahead. (By 'wayyyy ahead', I mean 20k = about 5x the value of everything gun related I own. At least 5x. Maybe closer to 10x.) :o Only real loss would be an old .22 that I couldn't replace.

Somewhere between C and D. I'd have to have a couple two or three $1,000 plus guns, and the rest would be quality shooters, ranging from new rifles to used milsurps.

I'd have to get a Colt AR of some sort, an Ed Brown Kobra Carry, a Remington custom shop deer rifle of some sort in .270, and probably a Ruger Red Label over and under or a Citori.

After that, it would be a mishmash of S&W airweight revolvers, SKS's of all kinds, Mosins, Mausers, a few Glocks, a few Kimber 1911's, pump shotgun or two, Garand, M1, 03A3,....are you sure we only get $20,000?

My interests are just too broad. I like everything. I'd spend it like a drunken sailor, and still pine away for the one gun I wasn't able to afford.

Well the Fairy don't know about some things. I'd have something to CCW as I got busy getting OLDer Used :

4 Gov't models of 1911
4 K frames, 3"
4 BHPs
4 870 pump shotguns
4 Model 94 30-30
4 Model 70 in '06
4 Marlin 60s

Kinda like basic tools: hammer, saw, pliers, socket set , wrenches and screwdrivers. Never can have too many of the basics, then one adds the other tools for tasks. :D

Redundancy is good. One to use, one for back-up, one in case one needs fixing and one off site. Granted I prefer odd numbers, perhaps I need two off site so that means 5 of each of the basics. :p

$20,000 could get me just about every non-NFA weapon of WWI and WWII in pretty good shape, maybe with room for one of those, too.

Realistically? Buy a few of the guns I shoot constantly, probably up the grade of M1 and AR I have now, maybe a few more uppers for the AR, and pocket the rest of the money for a year of college.

Oh, and add a Saginaw M1 Carbine to the collection. Only gun I have a desire to buy, but won't because of cost.

Which begs the question. How do you bait a Gun Fairy?

I mean besides guns, do they fall for pulled tooth from kids? I mean these gun fairies probably steal from other fairies like the Tooth Fairy.

Just wondering if a bunch of fake teeth scattered about would not draw them into range just as well as to having to get Air Softs or something.

'Sides I figure enough parents have these teeth from kids anyway, been wondering what to do with 'em all these years.

One Barrett semi-auto 50 cal. 7 to 8 thousand
Two quality 1911A1 45's - 2 to 3 thousand
One Browning Highpower - 500 to 600
One Custom Bolt Action 308 - 1/4 MOA - 2 thousand
One M1A Springfield Nat Match - 1,800
One AR15 - 1,000
One Shotgun - semi-auto - customized - 1,000

That would leave about 4 to 5 thousand dollars that I would use to purchase Ak's, shotguns, boltguns, pistols wholesale - that are popular sellers at gunshows and auctions - in order to sell them at a profit and then do it again and again

Somewhere between B and C.

I want:
one nice bolt rifle for medium thin skinned game (Custom shop Win 70 Featherweight)
one nice bolt rifle or double rifle for dangerous game (dunno what exactly)
one well built homeland defense rifle (nice AR with all the trimmings)
one nice SxS shotgun for small game and shotgun games
one nice revolver for "woods walking" and handgun hunting (M29 or Bowen 38/44 45Colt conversion)
one nice CCW piece (100% M19 or M13, etc)
a rimfire rifle (happy with my tuned 10/22, but it would be prettier)
a rimfire revolver (some variation of S&W's 6 shot k-frame 22lr)

No bargain priced models or "basic" versions. Each one would be built to my specs and tastefully embellished with nice wood, engraving, etc. I'd use up any left over money buy accumulating vintage S&W revolvers.

I'd start off with finding myself a nice, clean RC-30... I don't have a large collection compared to many here: a couple AR-15's,a .223 HK,a few milsurps,12-14 handguns...probably 28-30 guns in total but I probably wouldn't replace them one for one if I had to.I'd most likely buy used and get another SIG 239 for CCW,another S&W 66 for targets,a replacement Glock for being a Glock,a 16" AR and an 870.I didn't intend to become a collector of any sort,I just have problems selling things but at times it worries me that I've only been into guns for about the past 2 years.Yeah I know,I went almost 10 years owning only 1 gun and shooting maybe once a year!

Damn fairys. :D

Actually, 20k is roughly twice what I have tied up in my guns right now, so maybe I can forgive the little winged creep. Long as he didn't get my tools...

I'd replace my IPSC and 3-gun firearms first off -
Glock 35 USPSA Limited gun, Rescomp Mk2 sights, Vanek trigger, KKM stainless match barrel, milled front cocking serrations, NHO stainless guide rod, NHO stainless magwell, five magazines with Dawson +5 floorplates: $1200 or so.
Glock 17 USPSA Production/IMG gun, Rescomp Mk2 sights, Vanek trigger, 3 magazines with Dawson +6 floorplates and a half-dozen 15-rounders: $800 or so.
18" AR-15 w/ ABS 1:7" 5R barrel, F2 comp, JP internals and float tube, some high-zoot 4x optic: $2500 or so.
Since I can't replace my Franchi, damnit, I'd take a left-handed Benelli M2 Field, Dave's Metal Works +5 extension, 21" VR barrel with XS sights, SRM internals: $1500 or so.
And oh, what the hell. I'd order that Accuracy International/USO precision rifle/scope combo I've been dreaming about. $7000 or so.

How much do I have left? Seven grand? Whew. That went quick.

Two more AR carbines for classes, home defense, and the like. Say, $1500 each for nice ones with Global Tac 1:7" middy barrels, CMT parts and decent optics. $3000.
Two Glock 19s with Heinie Race Cut sights. $1000 for the pair.
Oops. Just realized I need magazines. Set aside a thousand for that, G19, ARs, and one AR Beta C-Mag.
Two grand left. That should just about cover a Jet suppressor for the .308, and an AAC M4-2000 QD suppressor for the AR. Kewl. :D

Enjoyable fantasy, eh?

Sorry I cannot go along with your "Gun Fairy" stealing all of my guns and leaving $20 grand behind. You would find that what would happen in my house would be the discovery of one very dead Gun fairy, and one very happy me with all of my guns still readily at hand and with my wallet 20 grand fatter. I just don't like fairies, especially ones that want to take away my guns.

Of course, once I had that $20 grand I could run out and buy more guns but I think I'd pay of the college bill or finish paying my mortgage. Then I have a steady flow of cash with which to buy guns from not having to make those darned payments to the banks.

I would be very PO'd at that fairy - as a good portion of my collection came from my father and grandfather (both deceased). The weapons are priceless and irreplacable to me even though they are usually only "worth" $100 to $300 on the used market.
All of these weapons have great stories attached like first squirrel or rabbit or that gut shot deer or the quail that just disintegrated at five yards.
