I know this is kind of a stupid question but I've heard that some semi-auto's can't do this reliably, or that it will harm them, or they just won't function like this. I'm curious if it's acceptable to shoot shorts or longs out of a stainless Papoose? I know the bolt wouldn't cycle but it seems you could just use it like a semi-bolt action for shorts. Thanks for the info.

It should work---but a couple things come to mind.

I'm thinking it would work more like a single shot---because I'm not sure the shorts would feed from the magazine.

Be sure to clean the chamber out good after shooting shorts---otherwise it might not function right with long rifles with all the crud in there.

If you ever see a "stainless papoose" I don't think it will even be wearing shorts - but if you can shoot the shorts off it, the mamma might be a little upset:D

Any gun chambered for .22LR will safely fire Long, Short and CB.

Safe doesn't mean reliably. The recoil spring is too strong for anything but LR. The magazine MAY feed, but probably not. Ejection shouldn't be a problem.

The shorter cartridges may leave a little crud in the chamber, but nothing an oiled cleaning patch won't push out.

If you want to use shorts for quieter shooting, it will be real quiet since the action will likely remain closed, like a bolt action.

Thanks for the replies, that's what I thought but I wanted to hear others say it as well.

I knew someone would make a joke out of my syntax :D
