He inherited a few long guns from a relative. One is a single shot shotgun in 12 ga., marked "Excel" and "E889XG". The other is a Marlin .22 single shot bolt action with plunger. He says it has no other markings except "22S & LR". Any help is appreciated.

Excel is a trade name used by H&D Folsom Arms Co and Iver Johnson Arms and Cycle Works, on shotguns made for Montomery Wards and Co of Chicago. 1920-30's.
H&D Folsom made mostly dbl Barrels so I am presuming that the sngl bbl is made by Iver Johnson
The sngl shot Marlin I don't know. What is the "plunger?"

The rifle is cocked by pulling back on a "plunger" in the bolt.
