S&W model 27-3 question

Almost bought a gun at the gun show today, but didn't know what I had. It was an S&W model 27-3 6" barrel. It looked unfired or nearly so. What confused me was that it has a crush fit barrel and an unrecessed cylinder and pachmeyer grips. The serial number started AJE. I thought the 27's were discontinued before the end of the pinned barrels. Any idea what it's worth and when it was made. Thanks, Joe

Looks like somewhere around 1986.
Notes in Supica & Nahas indicate that the engineering changes for 27-3 was elimination of cylinder counterboring and pinned barrel.
BTW, the 27 (-7) was discontinued in 2000.
Same source says $450 for NIB. Sounds a little low to me. These always seemed to be the best of the line to me.

Pinned and recessed went bye-bye in 1982.
The six shot Model 27 lasted for 12 more years.
The dash 3 was made from 1982 until 1986.
The last six shot 27 was the dash 6 made only in 6" in 93 & 94.
