Scope recommendations? Help!

What are some decent scopes, probably in the 4-12 power neighborhood, in the $200 range? It'll go on a WBS (wanna-be sniper) rifle that I'll be putting together in the near future. I've been looking online and the choices and price range are mind boggleing. This gun will be pampered so I don't need something that's built to dragged through the mud, just a decent scope that work well for mostly 100 yard (with the option to go out further if I can find someplace to shoot) target shooting on a .308. Thanks.

Based on personal experience, I would up the budget to $300 and go for a Weaver V-16 classic 4-16x 42mm fine reticle. I have one on my Remington 700 LVSF .17 Rem and love it. Many heavy duplex reticles found on sub-$200 scopes simply cover too much of the target at range. I have a Bushnell 6-18x 50mm on my .223 and the crosshairs darn near cover a praire dog at 350 yards.

The Leupold VARI-XII scopes are fairly decent. I have a 3-9x40mm that set me back $229. I'm not positive, but I think that they also have a 4-12x40mm scope in their VARI-XII series.

If you're looking a little cheaper and it's not a real serious rifle, then I'd look at the Muellers at www.theopticzone.com , or the Swift Premiers at www.eabco.com , in addition to the ones mentioned in that thread, such as the Sightron SII. Or, for a real 'budget' scope that is pretty decent, IMO, check out the 'Trophy' line of Bushnells too.
"WBS" - tee hee.

Guess that depends upon the definition of "decent". Personally, the only $200 scope that I would spend my $$$ on is the Bushnell Elite 3200 10x42 mil dot scope for about $170. I have one that is currently doing backup duty to my Leupold 3.5-10x40LR M1 mil dot scope on my .308 Tactical Rifle. You really don't start to see "decent" variable-power scopes until you start to approach $400. I would recommend the Sightron SII scopes in the under $400 price range. Just MHO.
