Right off the bat, I have no knowledge of the 1911 except the basic history and what I have been told by dealers. I have a 1911 .45 colt that I may be in the market to sell. Problem I am having is I am finding it hard to get a value of what it may be worth, one says I will give you this for it because it is common, another says more and yet another will say less. It is in near mint condition and was rebuilt and refinished by some agency some years ago. I was told it was redone some place in San Francisco that has since closed (a military place/arsenal). It has not been shot since it was redone. The serial number is 1853xx. It is gray in color with fixed sights. I was told that it was issued to a Captian durning WW1, weather it was or not I can not prove. No "US Property" mark, there is a mark where it was ground off. No other marks except factory marks and a circle with something in it by the trigger above the mag release below the slide release. Grips are plastic. Any help in value, even a rough amount, would be appreciated.

See my website below for pics.

Thank you

It has a Colt upper and a ???? lower. I could not tell from the fuzzy picture. ugly sights and a heavy park job. It is a 1911 not a 1911A1 and it would be worth at least $500 as a shooter and more likely $750 to $1000 if it is mostly original. Those sights look nasty and are a detriment to the value

Receiver was made by Colt in 1917, for a true 1911.
Slide is a later replacement with the "horsie" and it has a 1911A1 arched mainspring housing. Parkerized finish is part of a rework, but you knew that. Sights are the Micro tall fixed target sight set or something similar from military procurement. Worth some hundreds of bucks as a shooter. Removed property marks hurts value along with the refurb.
