Ducktape - I have a M85 Taurus which is darned close to your average 2" Smith snub and can take a pic against my Mak if you wish. Just say.

Here ya go - lighting not ideal - didn't really set it up to suit best being in a hurry. The Snub is well worn BTW thru extensive carry, careful tho I was, sweat and holster got the better of it, externally.
The Mak is a Bulgarian import, but of a Russian .... just under safety lever is the triange in circle marking. Hope this pic helps a bit for you - the invoice will come later ;)

Ducktape,
I pack a Taurus 85 just like that (well, almost just like that), and it carries quite well. I can tell you a Mak would probably have the edge in comfort, as it is a little flatter and whatnot, but it's not like the 85 is a torture device.

The 642 is a little shorter than the 640, I believe.
I never bought a holster for the 640, so I can't give an honest opinion about how well it carries compared to the Makarov. I'm sure with boot grips, it would have been more comfortable. But I actually hit things 10-15 yards with the Makarov. All of mine are Bulgarian.

Grimjaw - another nice pic there! :)
Ducktape - do you carry them? If you do which carries better?Never carried the Mak - never needed to but I know it would carry OK in a sho rig I have.
The snub was in fact my first carry back in 2001 and it was with me a long time before I went to the P95, which was not carried all that long but long enough for me to dream up my handle which has been obsolete for ages!
Spent some carry time with M28 4", BHP and then settled on SP-101 for a long while until getting my SIG 226.
The M85 carried well in a belt slide hi-ride type of rig which then did ideal duty for SP-101. Held in real tight and plenty of cant - never a printing prob.

I've carried an East German Mak, but now carry a S&W 642. The Mak is approx. 10-12 oz. heavier than the 642. The weight difference and the smoother edges make the 642 a much, MUCH better carry piece. IMHO, it's a "night-and-day" difference.
I've said it before: The 642 is the best carry piece.
