Alright guys I already have 2 shotguns. I have a Remington 870 and a Remington 11-87. I use both of them for hunting. The 11-87 gets some clay pigeon shooting done with it to. I'm specifically looking for "truck gun". It's not that I won't take excellent care of it, I just want something that is simple and easily maintained, something that I can sort of semi-beat around without to much of a problem. I want it to be a pump action. It has to be cheap, but well made. I was looking at a Mossberg 500. Any issues with these? Thanks!!

Many USED 870's and 500's out there in varying condition and price range.
I don't like the 500 safety but it's well liked by others. Look for a well-used 870 or 500 with enough blemishes to make it cheap. a bulged barrel is usually damaged at the distal end and can be sawed off. Scars, dings, and scratches rarely affect function.

NO , they are decent guns. Some Walmart's are getting rid of the 500 for about 150
You can also pick up an 870 pretty cheap , this time of year they are on sale everywhere

Another vote for a used 870.

Hey thanks for the replies. I'm still debating. I don't know though.....I like my Remingtons but Mossbergs are starting to appeal to me.

If you get another 870 you will have parts compatibility with the 870 you already have. Parts commonality is a good thing.

Here's another vote for getting an 870.

Rob

If you have a Dick's Sporting Goods, they've had some sub-$200 prices on Mossbergs and 870's in the low $200s.

You can also get an H&R 12g pump for around $150, but I don't know their quality.

Can't go wrong with either an 870 or the 500 . They both have a long history of giving good service. The 870 outsells any other pump and for good reason as they typically give excellant service.

Many choices depending on what you like and what you want to spend. My local Wal-Mart has 500's for like $159 hard to beat that price, but I still recommend a local gun shop .

There is a good selection in my local shop including a number of used pumps from $100 on up. An example in this shop is a Stevens Model 620 in 12 ga. They were a good old gun designed by Browning ,and some people still like them for car guns as they are a take down model. I think it is in the shop here at $98

Sept gun show close to here had a number of Remington police guns in the $140 - $160 range.

can't go wrong with an 870 or a 500. my personal preference is for the 500, but if you already know the 870 well, there is a strong argument to be made for sticking with it.

I'm still debating....what the hell.....why not buy them both? I'll see what I can do now for the money I'm gonna need to get them both. Getting 2 guns is always better than just getting one!! LOL Thanks again.
