Threading the muzzle on a levergun?

I'm thinking about getting a Marlin 1894C in .357 mag and having the muzzle threaded 1/2x28. How tough of a job is this? Is it doable by an average gunsmith?
I don't care about the front sight because I'll be using optics.
Any experience, tips, or thoughts appreciated.

Why?
.500 is a little close to .357 for my taste. If the rifle has the full length magazine it becomes a bit more complex. It seems like lots of trouble to go through without a real good reason.

If the threads have to be accurate and straight, you will have to remove the barrel and have them cut on a lathe.

Do you know how the barrel is attached in the Marlin 1894C? How tough is it to remove? I'd imagine it isn't anywhere as easy as a 10/22. ;)

I do have a real good reason.
I'm hoping that the 1894C has enough barrel that extends past the end of the mag tube so that I have enough 'meat' to thread without shortening the mag tube (like the barrel on a Beretta 92FS).
Most 9mm AR15 barrels come standard threaded at the muzzle 1/2x36.

It is screwed on. I am mechanically inclined and will tackle about any task, but I won't try removing a barrel. Are you trying to put a compensator on it?

Thanks for the info.

Would a...starlight scope...be a part of this project? :scrutiny:

Well, there IS a little bit of barrel that extends past the magazine, but I wouldn't want to rely on it to hold a supressor.

If it were me I'd shorten the magazine.
