I e'mailed the SanFran Convention and Tourist bureau.

To whom it may concern:
Just thought I'd let y'all know that my family and I will no longer be making our annual trip to San Fran to visit my wife's family. Why? Because we will not spend our money in a city that is so anti-freedom and so anti-bill of rights that they would choose to ban handguns and giver up their right to self defense.

Too bad really - I like SanFran. Great place to visit - especially in the fall. So the thousand or so dollars we spend there every year will no longer be coming to you or your moonbat state. SanFran won't go bankrupt because my family doesn't go there anymore but maybe enough freedom loving folk like myself and my family will feel the same and y'all might note the loss of dollars. One can only hope.

Good luck - your gonna need it. Because now that handguns are banned only criminals will have them - just like in Chicago and DC.

Sincerely
Michael AndressHere's their reply...Dear Mr. Andress,

Thank you for taking time to write to us.

The ultimate fate of Proposition H is unknown at this time. An article from today's San Francisco Chronicle indicates a legal challenge is underway.

As a sales and marketing organization, the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau's role is to market the City as a visitor destination. We don't take positions on political or governmental issues, which are decided upon by the Mayor, the Board of Supervisors, or the people of San Francisco - and sometimes all three.

I hope that you will return to San Francisco in the future.

Sincerely,

Laurie Armstrong

Well the visitors bureau is correct. They have no power, but they can yell in the BoS and the Mayor's ear about it.

As a marketing guy, I'd say they're idiots if they ignore customer feedback. Further, Marketing's job is to understand their market (i.e. do market research) and pass it back to 'management'. Management that ignores the needs and wishes of the marketplace do so at the peril of their companies.

The real question is, "Are there enough Freedom-loving people out there who will actually avoid SanFran?"

Pass the buck!! And I'll bet you another buck she voted for the ban! Say one thing though, at least you got a nice response from the lady. Much better that some I've heard from other cities about things having to do with handguns. ( Could be that I'm just a cynical old fart).:uhoh:

I think your sentiment was 100% right on.

However, the spelling and punctuation errors, along with the use of words like "y'all", "gonna", and "moonbat" made gun owners look stupid, and probably got your whole letter disregarded. I think the letter could have been more polished.

Still...kudos to you for writing it.

You just wrote the wrong people - write that to the mayor.

+1 Valkman

A letter or two to the Mayor and the City Council members would do well (I would hope).

San Fran used to be on my list of places I'd like to visit in my lifetime. As long as SF stays where it is or continues its flust down the toilet it will be crossed off. NO has been moved from definate to maybe after the way local politions handled the aftermate of katrina and blatantly violeted civil rights. Not even a civil right like free speech. One that you can live without (NOT saying it is worthless or expendable, simply saying it isn't needed to save your rear end)
They violated the civil right that kept untold numbers of people alive in the aftermath. How many women were saved from rape? How many people saved from being murdered? How many kids got to keep their bellies full because their parents were able to protect their supplies? None of that was done with 911 it was done with firearms and private citizens forming their own little temporary militas to protect their neighborhoods. I remember the one set up roadblocks with fallen trees and cars and armed patrols to keep outsiders out, repelled quite a few "invaders" if I remember corectly. And a violation like is something that will never be forgotten and will be hard to forgive.

Werewolf,

Thanks for writing the letter. I wish more people would do so. San Francisco lives and dies on its tourism trade. It is the largest money maker in the City. After 9/11, we were financially battered. We are finally beginning to get back on our feet. Letters like this, to the SF Convention and Visitors Bureau and to the Mayor and the Board of Supes can make a difference. But there need to be a lot of them.

I'd like to encourage all of you to write a quick little letter to the City to tell them how you feel.

Thanks for all your support.

I'm furious over the ban (I live about 15 miles away and work in the city) but the absurd thing about the ban is (aside from the banning of sales of firearms and ammunition) this ban doesn't effect me. I can still carry a pistol at my work place (near the tenderloin) because the bill only applies to residents of san francisco which I am not and never will be. Which is probably the number one reason (aside from that violating the constitution, federal law and state law thing) that this bill is so rediculous. Since I don't live in the city it is legal for me to posses a handgun there (still unloaded and locked while not on private property where I have permission by the owner to posses a loaded firearm). Most people don't know this about the ban that it is a defacto disarmerment of law abiding gun owning SF citizens and noone else. Perhaps Daly (the man responcible for the piece of glorious filth) didn't check the city's own stats that something like 40% of the murders in SF are commited by non-residents or more likely her doesn't care. Newsom (mayor) even said in a TV interview that "I don't think there is anyone who doesn't think this will get overturned in the courts" <shaking head> so nice to watch money flush down the drain day in and day out. My state is so beautiful if I could just get all the politicians and liberals out. My family's been here 8 generations I shouldn't have to leave :)

care? why should he care its a stunt and now the antis really have something to go for, in votes 58% is pretty darn good. They will spin it and neglect SF is one of the most liberal places on earth let alone in the USA. It wil lget beat down in the courts for a number of reasons. Usless, Unconstituional, and agiasnt state law.

M-Rex,

Good luck, y'all. :D Word of advice. If you or yours ever head east in the southern part of our nation...after you leave west Texas behind you...might just be a good idea not to repeat that bit about saying y'all makes you look stupid. Unless you're bored and looking for some excitement to liven things up. I don't know how the folks who say gonna feel about it but the folks who say y'all will get all kinds of bent out of shape over the matter. Best just to avoid the possibility. It's kind of like some of El Tejon's pearls of wisdom relating to the old Confederacy. He used to go to Thunder Ranch a good bit. I've told him a time or two,"Bet I couldn't get you to say that loudly in a juke joint outside of San Antonio on a Saturday night."

After west Texas, discretion is the better part of valor. You are the one who talks funny over heah, you hear? :D

You are the one who talks funny over heah, you hear? :D Havin' grown up in Memphis {pronounced Me'omphis}, I gotta remind you the correct pron'unciation of that sentence is, "You are the one who talks funny over heah, ya heah?"

"What we have heah ... is a failya to commoonicate", said the Miss'ippi prison farm warden in Cool Hand Luke.

:neener:

Having said that, when writing to those in Rome, write as the Romans write.

"Μολon λαβέ, ya'll."

Oh, wait. That's not Latin, but Spartan. Such warriors those Spartans were. Including their women.

Speaking of Rome, are there any SF'ians on this forum who intend to live up to that valient challenge?

In fact, are their any SF'ians on this forum? Or will they all just fiddle as SF burns?

To whom it may concern:

With regards to the passage of Proposition H. This is to let you know that my family and I have canceled our semi annual trips to your city. We will not spend one more dime in a city willing to advertise to the criminal that residents and tourists alike will be unarmed and therefore, easy targets for any and all forms of crime.

We have enjoyed San Francisco. The cable cars, the scenery, Fishermen's Warf, and the restaurants have made San Fran a favorite destination for years. I'm sure your city will not go broke for the loss of the review generated by my family. It only amounts to a few thousand dollars a year. Maybe we will take up hunting in Colorado or vacation in Arizona or maybe even take in a Machine Gun Shoot in Nevada. The point being, I will not take my money or family where criminals have been given cart blanch. That would, in my opinion, make me a very irresponsible head of house.

Maybe someday, things will improve and cause me to reconsider but I wont hold my breath.

Sincerely

One tiny suggestion: "won't".

Any of us can forget that apostrophe.

Coming from a long line of Oklahomans (Okies), Arkansas folk (Arkies), and Missourians, I see your point. +1 to you.

However, the fact remains that proper english and grammar matter. If one sounds like a clod, then one will be perceived as a clod. With the number of apparent actual clods in the firearms culture, and the common mainstream perception of clods in the firearms culture, every effort must be taken to throw off that stereotype. I maintain the letter could have been more articulate.
