Transferring to out of state FFL?

Yes, I did a search but couldn't really find an answer.
I'm selling one to a guy in MN from VA. I need to know the exact procedure how to do this. I've got the local gun store telling me I need to get his FFL form and drop it off at a FedEx shipping center, but don't have to get a FFL from my state.
But I also understand FedEx costs something like $50:what: to ship.

I *think* some states may have something to say about this, but as far as I understand Federal law doesn't require a private party to ship from an FFL, only to one. You can't ship USPS, so you'll have to use something like FedEx or UPS.
AFAIK, both of those carriers will require overnight shipping with a handgun. I can't find that as a law anyplace, and pretty much believe it to be FedEx/UPS policy.
I'm assuming, btw, that this is a handgun.
Have the buyer send you a copy of the FFL holders license - preferably signed in blue (or red) to verify. Also have him send you a note with his real time contact information (phone numbers, email, etc) that you can package with the handgun.
Ship the handgun to the registered FFL holder. It should all be layed out towards the bottom right of the license the buyer sent you. The FFL holder is the only person you can legally ship to.

Many dealers will not send a copy of their FFL to a nonlicensee. You don't legally need it since you can check the dealer's status on the BATF web site.
Just get the first 3 and last 5 numbers in his FFL number and go to BATF FFL eZCheck (https://www.atfonline.gov/fflezcheck) and enter the numbers. You will then get the status of the FFL and the dealer's premises address. Ship only to that address.
If the firearm is a rifle or shotgun, you can mail the firearm. If it's a handgun, you will have to ship UPS or FedEx overnight (expensive). It may be cheaper to have a dealer mail a handgun if their fee isn't too high. Dealers are allowed to mail handguns to other dealers.

EOD guy is correct. No need for you to have a copy of the FFL. Ship away....:)

some states have laws stating all out of state transfers must be FFL to FFL only. for instance connecticut must have it transfered from an FFL. where I live (nassau NY) rifles and shotguns are OK from a non ffl, but hand guns must come from an FFL... no exceptions.
check with the receiving FFL holder what the local laws are before just shipping it out. some people just assume its coming from a dealer and not a private party... if it comes in and there is no FFL with it depending on the local laws it may be refused and then you get banged for the return and holding charges and then have to pay a second time to ship out again from a dealer...

I see that everyone has posted the correct information above (that's a new one!) but I'd like to remind everyone that you should always try to check these things out at the BATFE website to be sure. They have a relatively nice FAQ section that has answers to all of the common questions about firearms in the USA. Most of their answers are even correct!
