Now that the ATF has halted importation of FAL and other kits, what is happening to the prices of these rifles? I'm not talking about the century built rifles that could be had for $350--$500, but the Kit build guns done by enthusiasts. Should we expect the prices to sky rocket?

I'm just wondering as I see remaining kit prices increasing and reciever prices have been up lately too.

I've got one of these I was thinking of getting rid of, but if the market for them is going up, I may hang on for a while.

In general, I don't think their value will increase. The reason is, the buyer can't know the quality of the build unless he personally knows the builder.

There are some very nicely built guns put together by folks who are very meticulous, carefully research, use the best of everything or just have a talent. Garage kit builds also aren't necessarily under the restraints of time schedules and profit margins. However, there are also guns cobbled together by folks that are going for the cheapest way out, use inferior parts, or those who get themselves in over their head putting batteries in a flashlight.

Even with Century Arms guns, you can read magazine reviews, talk to other owners and check the forums to get an idea what to expect and then base your decisions/offers on those reviews.

Build a gun for yourself, to build a rifle just like you like it, to enjoy the hobby of building, to enjoy and take pride in owning and shooting something you've built yourself. Never build to save money, to earn a profit(unless you're a professional of course) or for collectability.
