Go over to Shotgunworld and inquire under Ithaca lovers. From time to time the author of two Ithaca Shotgun books and a former retired Ithaca gunsmith frequent the forum and have very accurate and valuable information. Good luck.

"serial 247460"
"The serial number range for the Flues is approximately 175,000 to 399,000."
"...built on a three piece lock mechanism invented by Emil Flues. Introduced in 1908, it remained in production through 1926 when it was replaced by the Ithaca New Double. Several grades were offered beginning with the Field grade and ending with the Sousa Special."
"Qualities offered were: Field, 1, 1 Special, 1-1/2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and Sousa."
"The gauge and grade can usually be found on the left front corner of the water table of the frame, the serial number is usually found on the right side of the same water table, on the barrel flats and on the forend iron."
- '99 Standard Catalog of Firearms
20 ga. Flues Field grade in 90% condition is $900 in the current Blue Book. A Grade 3 is $1,675.
FWIW, the 11 Sousa grade guns have gold mermaids on the trigger guard and have been running $15,000 to $40,000 depending on gauge and condition. John Phillip Sousa assisted in the development of this model. - more info from the Standard Catalog.
Take the barrels off to get a clear look at the water table - the flat part of the receiver the barrels sit on.

I forgot to look up the serial number in the back of the Blue Book. JT
SN = 247460
1913 started with 242599
1914 started with 256699

I looked for the grade. It is a grade 5. If I am reading your post right, the higher the # the better. Is this correct? the gun is only in average condition i would say. no major scratches but is showing wear. needs to be re-blued. (of course I would never do.)

Yep. :) I don't think I've ever seen a 5.
Now you need an expert. The Blue Book has a list for options on guns made from 1925 to 1948. Things such as "add $350 for vent rib on Grades 4, 5, 7, and $2,000 Grade. Add $200 for VR on lower grades. Add 33% for auto ejectors on Grades 1, 2 and 3. Subtract 33% if without auto ejectors on Grades 4E to 7E." Surely there is a similar list somewhere for the earlier guns.
The prices listed below are for early and late guns, but all things being equal - they never are. The guns introduced in 1925 have "...the rotary bolt and a stronger frame..." and "Values are the same as for pre-400,000 serial range shotguns." I can't even tell you how much of a price difference there is between guns with fluid steel barrels and damascus barrels. Having said all that, you still need an expert. :)
Grade 5E - E for auto ejectors. 20 ga.
100% = NA; 95% = $4,000; 90% = $3,700; 80% = $3,300; 70% = $3,000; 60% = $2875.
Let us know what you find out.
