On the discovery channel right now. A dem family and a Rep family switch, the rep family owns a few guns.
Im looking forward to seeing if the gun issue arises.

Was channel surfing and came across it...interesting. Of course the 'blue' family had me yelling at my TV on just about everything they said. The gun part was funny - according to the 'blue' family if you have a handgun in your home you're 12 times more likely to shoot yourself in the foot.

Saw it...
Not fair or balanced...
Liberals - wealthy college professor and school principal
Conservatives - tomatoe farmer who repairs printers and religious nut
Liberals - about 2/3 of air time
Conservative - 1/3 air time
Liberals - came across as smart well reasoned
Conservatives - came across as barely educated religious hicks
Liberals - condescending a'holes
Conservatives - gee thanks for teaching us poor dumb hicks the error of our ways

that's pretty much the same as a recent episode I saw of Trading Spouses. Not something I normally watch, but this one caught my eye. They went and found the most intolerant, crazy, and downright scary-looking Christian they could, and had her switch places with a mom who was more of a wiccan-sort. I would have been just as offended had they used a crazy wiccan instead. There is very obvious and blatent bias in the media. Who would have thought there would be such a gulf of difference between Fox's news arm, and their broadcast arm.....

Its not an academic essay, nor does it even pretend to be "news". The families were picked to be entertaining. The fact is that they represent the stereotypical liberal and conservative. If they picked a pair of perfectly well reasoned families then they would be fully capable of getting along together despite political difference, and that would make some pretty lame television.

The fact is that they represent the stereotypical liberal and conservative.
Oddly enough, to me, the stereotypes are reversed on half of that list.
